Robert Dyess Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 22, 2025.
Robert Blane Dyess, 64, a lifelong resident of Gail, Texas, passed away on December 21, 2025, with his devoted wife by his side, resting in the peace and promise of his faith.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at the First Baptist Church of Gail at 2pm, with Brother Randy Hardman officiating.

Blane was born on February 20, 1961, in Lubbock, Texas, to Robert W. Dyess and Patricia Dyess. He spent his early childhood in Abernathy, Texas, before moving to Southland, Texas, and eventually to Gail-where his roots were planted and his heart remained. Though life carried him to different places through the years, Blane always knew Gail was home. Five years ago, he and his wife returned and built their home on the ranch, a place he lovingly called their "forever home," firmly believing it to be God's country.

From a young age, Blane developed a deep love for football and basketball, sports that remained close to his heart throughout his life. After graduating high school, he moved to South Fork, Colorado, where he worked at Fun Valley. Blane often spoke of how grateful he was for that time, the people he worked for, and the many skills and lessons he gained there.

Following his time in Colorado, Blane pursued a lifelong dream and moved to Toledo Bend Lake to become a fishing guide. Bass fishing and tournament fishing were among his greatest joys-what he often referred to as his "third true love." He continued to enjoy fishing until illness no longer allowed him to do so.

Blane worked many jobs throughout his life, always with strong work ethic and humility, before finally returning home to work the ranch. It was there, back in Gail, that he found deep contentment, gratitude, and peace, trusting God's plan for his life and cherishing the land and life he loved.

Blane often shared that his life truly changed when he met his wife, Carol. Together, they built a life grounded in love, faith, and devotion-enjoying travel, ranch life, and faithfully supporting Texas Tech and Borden County sports. His greatest joy was his family, whom he loved fiercely and faithfully.

Blane was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Rudd; his sister, Suzanne Kitten; and his grandparents, whom he dearly adored.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Dyess; his father and bonus mom, Bob and Cookie Dyess; his children, Morgan Harvey and husband, Keith, Brittney Dyess, and Landon Ellis; and his beloved grandchildren, Billy Don and Cora Harvey. He is also survived by his sister, Monica White and husband, James; his brother, Mark Walker and wife, Stacy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many loyal friends.

Blane leaves behind a legacy of faith, love for family, devotion to home, and gratitude for the life God gave him.
