As a child, I lived in the household community of Church of the Redeemer. My fav memories of Dr Bob included his home visit and exam of a black eye I received playing softball with the boys. My mom, Priscilla Wright, worked with the clinic for a time as a social worker in the Fourth Ward. I went to see Dr Bob with a possible broken toe from kicking my sister. He asked if I had learned my lesson. I replied that I had. Next time before kicking her I´d first put on my shoes.
In 1974, our family moved to the Nixon ranch owned by Nancy´s family. Preparing to be caretakers of the property for church retreats, we lived there until Thanksgiving of that year when the ranch house burned down at 3AM. We mostly escaped through windows, except for me. I had passed out in a smoke-filled hallway with the roof engulfed in flames. My mom crawled in and happened to find my hand on the floor, dragging me back out the way she had come.
The Eckert´s were always a significant part of the activities of the church, and as a child, I remember them all fondly. Heart felt condolences to those who remain as Dr Bob joins those who have gone before him to be with his Precious Lord and Savior, Jesus.

It was during my time at Redeemer that I was called to go to medical school, and Dr. Bob was my mentor, counselor, and inspiration. Following his lead I went into family practice, caring for the whole family, from delivering babies on the front end of life, to hospice care on the back end of life. I never had the opportunity to practice with Dr. Bob, but our time at Redeemer was precious to me. He was truly one of the giants of our generation. We are currently out of state, so won't be physically present at the visitation, but we will be there in spirit.

Dr Bob was a dedicated father, husband, and servant of the most high God. He was a pillar of strength who ministered to those in need, both in spirit and in poverty. He never wavered. He answered the call and went wherever and whenever God needed him. He will be greatly missed. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. We shall meet again. Rest in peace my friend.
