Robert Reed Garner

LORAIN – Robert Reed Garner, age 82, of Lorain, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Fairview Hospital following a brief illness.
He was born on June 21, 1932 in Washington, PA and graduated from Washington High School in 1950.
He served for two years in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
In 1954, he moved to Lorain and has resided here since.
For many years, Robert worked at the manager of Hart's Jewelry in Lorain and Sheffield. He also worked in the jewelry department at Esco in Lorain.
He then began a career in security and worked for Pinkerton's Security, and most recently worked as a security manager at Wesleyan Village, Elyria, retiring in 2000.
For many years, he and his wife volunteered at the American Red Cross on the Disaster Action Team.
Robert was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Elyria.
He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed reading about history. He enjoyed watching TV and caring for his cats.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia (nee Galaher); his son, Robert Owen (Marleta), of Los Osos, CA; his daughter; Linda (Ray) Cosma, of Lorain; a grandson, John R. Cosma; and a step-sister, Donna, of Washington, PA.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Day (nee Work) and a brother.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 16th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst.
Funeral service will be on Friday, October 17th at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral center. Rev. Chris LaLonde, pastor of Cornerstone United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Private burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in memory of Robert be made to the animal shelter of your choice.
