Robert L. George, 92, of Scottdale, a longtime Mt. Pleasant businessman, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2015, in UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh. Mr. George was born April 24, 1922, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late M. R. George and Margaret Forsyth George. Mr. George was the owner of George and Cunningham Hardware on Main Street in Mt. Pleasant for 50 years. He was a 1939 graduate of the former Ramsay High School and a 1943 graduate of Grove City College. Bob was a veteran of the Navy during World War II. He was a longtime and active member of Reunion Presbyterian Church and a member and past president of the Mt. Pleasant Rotary Club, and held memberships with the Mt. Pleasant Elks, American Legion and VFW Posts. He also served as chairman of the Mt. Pleasant Salvation Army Service Unit. For 32 years he was a member of the Board of Directors at Standard Bank. In addition, he was named Mt. Pleasant Citizen of the Month and in 2003 was named Mt. Pleasant Citizen of the Year. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin F. George; and a brother-in-law, Harold W. Queer. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Marjorie (Moon) George; his daughter, Martha A. Sitler and husband, Mark, of Douglassville; his son, William R. George and wife, Sandy, of Mt. Pleasant; two grandchildren, Brandon George and wife, Laura, and Darcy Firmstone and husband, William; a sister, Betty Queer, of Cranberry Township; a sister-in-law, Betty George, of Greensburg; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at GRAFT-JACQUILLARD FUNERAL and CREMATION SERVICES INC., 303 Pittsburgh St., Scottdale. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Susan Washburn officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
