Robert (Gerry) Monaghan Obituary
Robert Gerard Monaghan, born on September 17, 1960, in Edinburgh, Scotland, He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, May 30, 2025, just after happy hour. Gerry is survived by his devoted wife, Kathleen Monaghan, and his sons, Robert, Christopher and Christopher's wife, Addie Hogan and Laurie, his adopted daughter. He is preceded in death, by his mother, Elizabeth Murray, his father, Robert Monaghan, and many cherished friends.
He was a loving Scotsman, Gerry was a beloved husband, father, friend, and coworker. Gerry loved a challenge and was always happy to lend a hand, or tell a great story, and enjoy a beer, or two.
Gerry had a passion for travel, Tec, motorcycles, movies and music He explored the world extensively, including Most of Europe, South Africa, Tahiti, Taiwan, Tunisia, Hong Kong, Israel. He also Motorcycled through the Sahara Desert and accidently went into Libya. For over 35 years, Gerry dedicated his skills as a Field Service Engineer and later a Field Service Supervisor. In 1997, he relocated to Livermore, California. This is where he met his wife, Kathy. He bought his dream Toy, his Harley. His travels continued in the U.S. as he and Kathy embarked on countless motorcycle adventures with their buddies. They together traveled on various trips. Such as camping in the Giant Redwoods, and visiting the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon and the Arches. He enjoyed numerous vacations with Kathy and the boys, friends and family. Gerry adored teaching his boys about his heritage, sharing his vast carpentry projects, computer skills, and a lifetime of stories. He enjoyed, tinkering on new gadgets, figuring out computer problems and many other projects. We are confident we can all still hear him in his office. This is a testament to his vibrant presence.
He will be dearly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Life Celebration date is to be determined at a future time.
In lieu of flowers or cards, the family requests donations to Renal Cancer Research.

I had the privilege of meeting Gerry through his wife, Kathy. But I got to know Gerry over the course of a week-long vacation/birthday celebration/family reunion in Puerto Vallarta in 2017. Gerry impressed me greatly with his ability to communicate technical information in a manner that was easily digestible. Also, he introduced me to Guardians of the Galaxy and Deadpool, for which I'll always be grateful. So much fun! Every time I re-watch those movies, I relive those cherished vacation memories, and I think of him. Another favorite memory of that trip was the Swimming Pool Bubble Party where Kathy and I laughed hysterically and uncontrollably, just like when we were kids playing Blind Man's Bluff. Gone too soon. God bless you, my friend.

I had the privilege to work with Gerry on multiple occasions. We installed several systems in Mexicali together. He later became my manager. He was a very fair boss and well respected by both co-workers and customers as well. He will/is missed for sure.

I shared much with Ger... age, interrsts, heritage... our careers paralleled aswe were hired within months of each other - he to cover Germany and myself, Indiana. He was a great colleague. The best of the best at whatever he did. Always available and happy to help, and as typical, always spot on with guidance. And an even better boss, taking care of his guys was his top priority. And an even better friend... the beers we shared together were the best. I shall miss him dearly. It was 35 very good years, and 6 not so good months.
My deepest condolences Kathy and boys. You are in my thoughts as you weather these rough days.

So saddened to hear of Gerry's passing.
I knew him from our days together at Bosch in Reutlingen from 1987.
We shared laughter and beers until he moved to the U.S. but remained in contact.
My thoughts and best wishes are with Kathy and his family.
