I recall sharing a brand new pair of Track Spikes with Bob furnished by Coach Grebe in Spring 1954 at FCHS.

I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my good friend and classmate, Bob Gilstrap. My heartfelt condolences go out to his many relatives. After high school graduation, I lost contact with Bob and his wonderful wife, Dixie, with whom I went to school for 12 years. The first time I saw them was at our 45th school reunion,in 1997. When I began writing my book about my brother in 2008,I had several wonderful visits with Bob and Dixie. During one visit I saw a great photo of their great grandson, Mason. That's when the idea hit me to use a photo of him with my brother for the cover of my book. I'm very pleased that the first person to see the final draft of my book was Dixie. I made a special trip to her home with the book just a few days before she passed.

I shall never forget Bob and Dixie. If the world were filled with more people like them, it would be a much better place.
