My sincere condolences to all! I have nothing but fond respectful memories of a true friend and mentor, The Chairman. Bob Godshall to those who knew him was a strong principled man, blessed with an overabundance of common sense, which enabled him to be successful in what drove him...helping others. He lived by a simple set of rules and expected such from those he dealt with...honesty and fairness! Rest in Peace my friend!

I grew up 3 driveways up from Bob's office in hatfield. I remember like yesterday how my brother and I would ride bikes in snyder's parking lot , and we would stop by Bob's office, and he would take the time to talk and laugh with us children at the time. He was a very kind man. And we got free candy everytime we stopped by. My father would always go to him for advise. And I ended up doing the same in my late teens/early 20's. He will be missed, and I send my condolences to his family.

Industrious, principled, tenacious and loyal are the adjectives that best describe Bob. He was the most effective State Representative I ever observed. I had the pleasure of his friendship and the benefit of his mentoring for 46 years. His was a life dedicated to the service of others and he will be sorely missed by those he served and befriended.

My sympathies on your loss. In my 28 years in the PA House, I counted Bob as one of my closest friends, both legislatively (I served on Tourism Comm.) and personally (we hunted and golfed together). Even though Bob and I were of different political parties, we could always work together and trust each other.

When I started lobbying in Harrisburg in 1989, Bob Godshall had already been there seven years prior. While he ended his service in the House as Chair of Consumer Affairs, I always think of his many-year membership on the Insurance Committee. I always appreciated his frankness on insurance issues and was gratified to be able to advocate his legislation to provide a tax credit when a person gets a long-term care insurance policy. Although it never passed, I like to think that he was in some way responsible for raising the General Assembly's awareness of seniors and long-term care based on his mother's experience.
On another topic, he was a long-time proponent of ending the ban on Sunday hunting. Even though he and I would have disagreed on that issue (the Grange opposed Sunday hunting), he would have been absolutely thrilled to see Senate Bill 147 pass the legislature this month. Bob Godshall kept that issue alive when it looked like there was no way it would ever pass, underscoring his dedication to issues important to him. His integrity and sincerity will surely be missed.
One other memory. He had a large bear in his office. His assistant in the early 1990s, Rosemary McAvoy, told me that an animal rights (anti-vivisection?) group came to lobby him. They ran out of words to say quickly because all they could do is look at the bear.

As a Hatfield resident, for many years, Bob was my rep. I communicated my thoughts to him, regularly. We didn't always agree, but I was always well represented. I'm saddened knowing he's passed on. To his family, may your hearts always be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

There are no words that can describe the character and spirit of Bob- his energy, empathy, intellect , and dedication were endless. His integrity and work ethic set a bar in politics that no one has or will be able to match. Bob was my mentor, my confidante and my dearest friend. His support and inspiration sustained me; Bob had and will always have my respect, appreciation and love.
