Robert Goldsmith Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 5, 2023.

Robert "Bob" Holloway Goldsmith was born on May 15, 1930, in Buffalo, NY to his parents Francis and Henry. He grew up alongside his older siblings, brother Hank and sister Dolores (both deceased.)

On July 4, 2023, Bob peacefully passed away in Carlsbad, CA at the age of 93. He is survived by his son, Joe and four daughters, Janeen, Daena, Maria, and Lisa and their Mother, Diane C Goldsmith.
Bob was a proud grandfather of 8: Andrew, Eric, Curtis, Stephen, Cameron, Hayden, Vaughn and Halle. as well as seven great-grandchildren: Matthew, Lily, Ben, Ceci, Rome, Ollie, and Francis.

Bob was a man of many talents and interests, with a passion for engineering and a knack for attempting to "fix anything."
He dedicated over 25 years of his career to General Electric, where he made significant contributions as VP of the Aircraft Engine Groups' Strategic Planning and Development Operation. He was instrumental in the unprecedented cooperative effort with France, an action of partnership that has endured, like the friendship he cherished with French counterpart, Jean Claude Malroux who also had 4 daughters.

Robert H. retired in 1993 as
Chairman & CEO of ROHR industries in Chula Vista, CA and relished the Southern California golfing climate with his wife Catherine (deceased) as an active retiree.

During his duty in the US Army, Bob served as an expert marksman though only in "practice," and sneaker-out-to-play golf during the Korean War.

An eternal optimist, Bob approached life with a philosophical lens. He firmly believed that knowledge was gained through observation, and he embraced the motto "Learn, Grow, Love." Bob's contemplative nature made him a consummate philosopher, constantly pondering the intricacies of life.

When he wasn't immersed in his work or deep in thought, Bob enjoyed a variety of hobbies. Golf was his true passion, and he could often be found on the green, honing his skills and enjoying the competition and company of friends. He also found solace in jigsaw puzzles, finding satisfaction in piecing together intricate designs. Bob was an avid reader and an astute investor, always seeking to expand his knowledge and make wise financial decisions.

Bob's legacy will forever be remembered by those who knew and loved him. His unwavering optimism, sharp intellect, and dedication to family and country will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.
Legacy gifts in education in his name include:
SUNY Buffalo School of Engineering.
Xavier University, Cincinnati, MBA School.
Cal State San Marcos: School of Engineering, MBA School, and Nursing School.
In addition, Bob has been a consummate supporter of organizations which provide goods and services that protect our safety or meet medical needs.

May he rest in peace.

Well, I waited to dig up a few digital photos of my Uncle Bob! Some came from Facebook, some scanned from my mom's archives after her funeral (Bob's only sister!) I wish I had all the pre-digital era camera photos available to share! Our relationship probably would not be considered deep, but I only hope he enjoyed the time we shared together as much as I did. A few rounds of golf were challenging to compete with him. I think I won most matches on his billiards table. I'll miss him. But I know he lived a good long life. I hope I get 93 years!
Rest in peace Uncle Bob. Mike Coleman

A dear friend. One of three `best men“ at our wedding. A true gentleman. Bob introduced Mike to golf and Mike now loves it as much as Bob did. Many happy hours spent with Bob in Rancho Bernardo, Rancho Santa Fe and more recently in Carlsbad. So many treasured memories. Our condolences to the family. Val and Mike, England.
