I was hostess for a party given for him in Minneapolis Minnesota! Sat and talked with him for many hours! Had my picture taken with him and then he gave me a kiss on my forehead. What a delight he was. Received an album from him and also his autograph! What a beautiful evening that I will never forget!

Robert Goulet had a voice that you NEVER forget, once you have heard it! It was so powerful, it stayed in your mind, forever! He never lost his tone, his vocal strength, his sense of humor, or his attractiveness. Even in his 70's, he looked, and sounded, years younger! I think he should have been a bigger star, but no one ever forgets Robert Goulet, or his talent, once they have heard it! That is, perhaps, the greatest accomplishment of all, to never be forgotten. He won't be! RIP

He had such a rich, beautiful voice and so well controlled. I still love to hear the songs he recorded on YouTube and would know his voice anywhere. All of his Fans would agree I'm sure.

I was 8 years old when I first heard Mr. Goulet's beautiful voice and fell in love with it. I heard it and got out of bed and hid in the hallway to watch him on the Ed Sullivan Show. I bought my first LP at 10 which was My Love Forgive Me and I still have that record today. He was a wonderful singer and actor and even now 57 years after I first heard his voice I still find it the most beautiful I have ever heard and the most distinctive. It has been years since he was lost to us but I will always remember him and love his music. May you always be at peace Mr Goulet, you are missed.

I fell in love with Robert Goulet when he appeared in Camelot, I was in High School at the time and my mom got me two tickets to see that play. I took a friend from school with me and because she worked for the school newspaper we got to interview him. Then 3 years later, he was appearing at the Ambasador Hotel in LA at the Coconut Grove, and my Fiance took me to see him. While he was performing, I was sitting up front, then he comes down from the stage and walks over to me singing on his microphone, and I melted right then and there.

It's now 2016 and I always wondered where you went So thought I'd look on google and was very sad to hear you were no longer with us, but hopefully in a better place. I met you in New Hope, PA as you were performing "Camelot" at the Lambertville Music Fair. You had Norm Crosby, the comedian, opening for you. We actually met walking down the street in New Hope, Norm was with you and he was cracking us up!! You guys were either staying at a place called the "hacienda" or it may have been a restaurant too. I fell in love with your beautiful eyes and i thought you were the most handsome man on earth. You sang to me and I almost passed out. About this time my husband comes wonderiing down the street and he sees us all hanging out and he hasn't a clue who you are. You have your arm around me. So. he says, "hey. thats my wife. Then he walks nonchalantly up to you and says, I'll trade her to you for a cigarette. We're all buzzed and cracking up by then, so you give him one. Husbands have the worst timing.!! well old friend I havent long here either so I'll look for you at that big party in the sky.

For Robert...
WEEP NOT FOR ME
Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.
Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.
I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.
Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.
Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.
Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...

If Ever I Would Leave You
By D.K. Milgrim-Heath
If ever I would leave you-
An earthly life gone is it true?
Such as your voice one of a kind-
Your specialty song hums in my mind.
Hearing it over and over again-
A never boring continued melody then.
You sang your song certainly best-
Better than anyone there was no rest!
Your feelings stirred up any air-
In all seasons you were always there.
You electrified my emotions with flame-
As you sang on my LP's this song's name.
Your family had their personal gem-
You were their singing angel to them.
Serenading God's angel choir with care-
But on earth you're missed everywhere.

I saw Robert Goulet in concert in Philadelphia in the mid 70s during the week he was on the Mike Douglas show. It was a theater in the round and he was able to sing to the back of the theater without any effort. I saw him again in the mid 80's in Baltimore during a run of South Pacific. He was as dashing and handsome as ever. What a glorious voice. Whenever I'm feeling nostalgic I put on one of his CDs and remember the first time I heard him sing on the Ed Sullivan show as part of the Camelot cast. He amazed me then and and still amazes me with his glorious voice. I hope you are singing with the angels.

‘Some Memories of Bob’
On my recent 88th birthday the word I received from Bob was: “We’ve been friends for more than fifty years and a better friend I’ve never had”. That naturally got me musing over those fifty plus years and here a few of the memorable Firsts.
My first meeting with Bob began in Toronto with my wife Doe and I getting ready to go out for the evening, I was already dressed and idly watching a C.B.C. TV show called “Pick the Stars” a showcase for new talent program. An accordion player was on and he was followed by this young fella who sang. A few bars into his song and I yelled “Hey Doe come see his kid!” We agreed he was something special (notso the audience – the accordion player won – we set a rigorous standard in Canada) anyway I learned the young singer’s name was Robert Goulet and he was a student at the Toronto Conservatory.
Next day I met with Bob, liked him, and booked him on a show I was writing for. At that time the C.B.C. had 4 or 5 weekly variety shows and I asked others writers to watch for his appearance and Bob’s T.V. career began.
Bob became a regular at our house. When Doe learned he was mostly broke and always hungry we had him over for dinner frequently. Actually the best money Bob made in those first days was on the Canadian Howdy Doody Show. Peter Mews who play the part of “Timber Tom” was going to be away for three weeks and he and I (I was “Clarabell” the Clown) talked our producer into hiring Goulet for “Trapper Pierre” as a replacement – Bob got 3 weeks daily work and made some needed bucks.
The next “First” was hearing Bob’s signature song “If Ever I Would Leave You” for the first time. Continued good things were happening with Bob; Starring on Variety T.V. – good acting roles with Kate Reid and others – starring on stage in Mavor Moore’s “Spring Thaw Revue” with Barbara Hamilton, etc. – and now a Broadway Break.
In New York Lerner and Leow were auditioning talent for the role of “Lancelot” in their new musical “Camelot”. They had invited Canadian actor Don Harron ,who was appearing on Broadway at the time, to read for the role. Don, when he learned of the singing required for the role immediately, and generously, said “You don’t want me the guy you want is working in Canada – name of Robert Goulet” Don’s words were heeded and Bob auditioned for and was awarded the role.
So now Bob was still working in Canada while going to New York for pre-rehearsal meetings. After one such meeting I came home to find a message from Bob saying he would pick me up early next morning to play golf.
It was still dark when he arrived at the house and it was early light when we got to the golf course. We teed off in early light barely seeing where our golf balls landed and continued with our play all the while talking about the changes his life would soon take.
Then at the third tee we sat while he talked of a new song “If Ever I Would Leave You” they had just written for Lancelot. He sang it quietly through and then as he realized we were alone on the course he stood up and let it out full voice. What a memory! The sun was just coming up – the early mists clearing on the river – birds calling in the morning blue – and listening to that great song filling the air. Wow! I had heard its first performance!
The next First was opening night in N.Y. Bob had asked us to come as his guests and what a night that was. All the glitterati of N.Y. in attendance. The woman seated to my right I recognized was Marlena Dietrich, which reminds me – before the show began I had been backstage with Bob and my last words to him were “on your entrance make sure you look up at the balcony let ‘em sees the eyes. Well when he came striding out - he looked up at the balcony and launched into his opening song “C’est Moi – C’est Moi – I heard Marlena let out an approving “Hmm!” I knew Bob was on his way.
The next First was Bob’s marriage to Carol Lawrence – Doe was Carol’s Matron-of-Honour and I was Bob’s Best Man. I remember – just as we began the walk Bob said to me “Do it right or I won’t use you again. “OW!” (The “OW!” was for Carol kicking him)
Bob had a bizarre sense of humour I remember one time we were on a flight to N.Y. to L.A. and the girl at the check-in said “Your going to have company – Richard Burton and Gregory Peck are on this flight” Bob turned to me and said: “We’d better not crash – I’ll only get third billing!”
Bob was really a kind and thoughtful man – over the years many of our friends have died, each time I’ve called Bob and given him the sad news and every time no matter where he was and at what stage in his career he always asked for the spouses home number and without fail called to offer whatever solace he could. I would learn from them how much his thoughtful remembrances were appreciated.
But I think the memory that defines Bob occurred on a ten-week cross country tour. I was along as a Special Material writer. It was a blast and the best memory of the time had to do with Bob’s thoughtful generosity.
Bob had been looking forward to playing Lawrence, Mass. Because a favourite aunt and uncle (Aunt Laura and Uncle John) lived there. . We spent a great afternoon with them I mostly stayed in the garden while the three of them were inside playing some strange card game with much whooping and hollering and loads of laughter.
A few weeks further down the road I came into the dressing room and saw Bob looking serious holding a letter in his hand. He handed me the letter it was from his aunt Laura. It read: Dear Bobby we have such sad news. We have rented our house for many years but now the owner tells us we have to move because he’s going to sell the house. We love it here and don’t want to move to a new neighbourhood”. It continued on in that sad vein.
Before I finished reading Bob had gone into his private room and stayed there till show time. Soon as the performance was over he headed straight back to his room. We heard him on the phone and then he came out wearing a huge smile “I’ve done it!” - “Done What? – I’ve bought the house for them!” He had been on the phone reaching the real estate agent and had just learned the house was bought. He could hardly wait for morning to call to tell them their home was now really theirs. I’ve never seen him happier.
And now for that last phone call to tell me he had just been diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis. “Ah don’t worry” he said “I’ll beat it the same as I beat the prostate cancer. I’ve got things to do still!”
That was the last time we spoke.
In Vegas there was a private wake in the Goulet home for friends and family. It was a sad memory. The house was banked in floral wreaths. Before leaving Toronto I gathered some autumn-red maple and oak leaves and in his favourite room where he read his newspapers and had his morning coffee I spread the leaves and placed a picture of Bob-Cheryl- and I on the leaves with a note saying Joyce Sullivan – Teddy Moore – Peter Appleyard and all your friends in Canada.
My last memory is being in Vega for his funeral services at The Church Of The Holy Redeemer. Bob’s wife Vera, his best friend and devoted fan had guided a tribute that few performers have ever received. The lights darkened on Broadway and in Vegas all traffic halted for the funeral procession along Las Vegas Blvd. Every few blocks another screen of Bob and the words “Las Vegas says goodbye to Robert Goulet” – thousands of people lining the street along the way and the Vegas lights dimmed en route. A remarkable tribute to a great talent and a great guy.
And Bob one last laugh before I finish this remembrance:
The church is packed; an overflow crowd is in the church courtyard to hear the service broadcast. The hearse is parked and in two rows the 8 pallbearers stand. We are waiting for Mrs. Goulet to arrive. I’ve been talking to my adjacent pallbearer Steve Lawrence and I have finished telling Steve that I once asked Bob, who had worked with every comic, “who was the funniest guy for you?” Without hesitation Bob said “Steve Lawrence”. Steve smiled when I related this and said, “Yeah, I could always get a laugh outa Bob” at that moment our intercom came on with the message “attention pallbearers, Mrs. Goulet is ready; the service will begin in five minutes. Steve immediately turned to the hearse – knocked on the door and called “Five minutes Mr. Goulet!”
The people in the courtyard were probably mystified to see the pallbearers breaking up.
Oh Well, there’s time enough for tears –
G’bye kid – luvya

I was fortunate to know Bob personally, growing up with him being a frequent guest at my home, and he and Nicolette attended my wedding shower. He and my father would play golf whenever he was appearing at the Latin Casino, and he always made sure I had ringside seats whenever I went to one of his appearances. I will miss him, he was one of a kind. Bob rest in peace, you were a wonderful man.

Wow, you had the MOST incredible voice that could move mountains and shake your soul!! I listen to your songs so often and feel so motivated and moved. You were truly "one of a kind" and there will be no one here to take your place. I was introduced to your music when I was just 12 yrs old back in 1969 my mom played one of your songs. You will be missed by so many!! I for one, will never forget you!!
May God keep you forever singing, and I hope to be there one day to hear you for eternity.

I was lucky enough to meet Robert & his lovely wife, Vera, briefly about five years ago when Vera was having her naturalization ceremony at the court. What a loving and kind couple they both were to speak with, and I'd always been a big fan of Robert. And he sang "God Bless America" that day at the ceremony, and Vera gave a remarkable speech about being so proud to become an American citizen.
Mostly, I send deepest sympathy to Vera and all the family; and want to express how beautiful the funeral services were that the family so graciously opened as a public ceremony. I did attend and it was done so touchingly and with such beautiful dignity. The family was kind to include us common people so that we could say goodbye to him as well.
God be with you all. Robert was a great talent who brought much happiness to many people.

The Goulet family,
For the sympathy and condolences, I'm very so sorry to hear that your husband/father had passed away last week. The Lord is with him to the heaven and the angels will sing. I loves to listen with Robert who sang all the songs for several times; but I like the song "Cella by Starlight" Usually, I watched it in long time ago. He sang so greatly with voice and beautiful twinkle blue eyes and handsome. May the LORD be blessed his heart and soul, but I didn't realized how old he was. He was a good man for singer. I haven't seen him for a long time. Rest and peace with him and Jesus may comfort you and all your family. God Bless You all.

In the early 1960's i worked for M. Rubin & Sons on Broadway in NYC. I was a very young girl about near 17 at the time. I answered the phone one day and this fellow asks for Bob, he and his brothers Don & Phil were in a meeting with their father Milton and others. I asked who was calling and he said Robert Goulet and I thought he was pulling my leg. He kept calling back, I finally interupted Bob and told him this man kept calling and said he was Robert Goulet and I didn't know what to do about it. Bob told me it was most likely him, the next call I answered was him again this time singing to me. I thought I was so embarrassed till the elevator opened and he comes out singing away to me - I have told this story many times and remember it like yesterday that he could be so nice to me after I really messed up. I often have thought of the Rubin family they were really great people to work for and it gave me the opportunity to meet a great person Robert Goulet and now Heaven or the better place is blessed to be entertained by such a talented man. Thanks for the memories Robert,God Bless you, your family and all that knew and loved you....Violet LaBarge Moore, [email protected]

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Just talk to God and he will see you through
When words sometimes just won’t do and you don’t know what to say
Just talk to God and let him have his way
When friends and family come and go
Just remember that God has an open door

I am so sad to hear of Robert Goulet's death...I adored him. My husband and I saw him in South Pacific in Dallas and then we saw him in Shreveport at a casino a few years ago...a memorable evening. Not only did he sing, but he played the piano for us. Yesterday, we played his music and listened for hours to his magnificent voice, knowing we were blessed to have recognized and enjoyed his great talent for as long as he lived. We appreciated him and will miss him terribly. Our deepest sympathy to his family.

to the family of Robert Goulet: I still close my eyes and remember his beautiful voice. My husband of 34 years gave me one of his records when we were dating and many years later I took our children to watch him in South Pacific when he played in Orlando Florida. It was a fantastic experience and I believe it created a unique appreciatiation for the performing arts in our children. May God keep Robert in a safe place forever. With deepest sympathy,

Dear Vera and The Goulet Family,
I'm am deeply saddened by the loss of your beloved husband and father.
The world has lost a man of greatness and a voice of pure gold.
He gave me one of the best nights of my life in 1995 at the Burt Reynolds Dinner Theater in Jupiter, FL. I was a Senior in High School and brought a friend I know who would appreciate him as much as I did. I have all his records and a few cd's. My dream was to meet him and sing with him as silly as that sounds. His charisma and debonnaire qualities were apparent that night as he effortlessly went through a 1.5 or 2hr performance without stopping. He brought along his friends Carol Burnett and Julie Andrews and his handsome look alike son Michael who sang with him. The intimate performance he gave made you feel as if he were only singing for you. I didn't want to leave that night. It should be noted after much review of articles and stories that have been told that this man lived to sing. I've heard that he did Man of La Mancha just after having gall bladder surgery and as a survivor of prostate cancer he was determined to keep on singing no matter what. I just wish he could have survived this too. I will continue to play his music and encourage others to do so. Vera may you find comfort that you were the great love and support that stood behind the giant who gave the world his voice and a picture of his soul.
With deepest sympathy,
Tiffany Lea Gibson

While there are several memories, my fondest is of a performance at Wolf Trap (near Washington, DC). He inspired me and for that I am truly thankful.

Being A life long fan ,I found him to be as engaging in person ,as on stage, during a chance encounter atop stone mtn.in the 90's .that radiant smile, that incomparable voice, shared by all who were fortunate enough to have been exposed to it, insures his legacy, will live on, long after all who have experienced it,have joined him,in the great beyond.

If Ever I Would Leave You, what a wonderful song and sung by a wonderful voice. Another great entertainer has left us, but his voice will remain for all to enjoy. God Bless, you are a inspiration to all young singers.

My mom was a huge fan and passed her love of his music onto me as I have all of her albums and still listen to them today. When I discovered I was pregnant I informed my husband by playing the song from Carousel that Mr. Goulet had on one of his albums about "my boy Bill"...His music and his legacy will live on and we can never express our gratitude for his talent or how deep our sympathy is for his family.

Bob, We (my girls and I) will miss you, so very much. Since the first time I met you, way back in 1968, you have been my hero and always will be. Thank you for being in our lives. I will miss your smile, letters, hugs, your wicked sense of humor and the twinkle in your blue eyes, but most of all, your beautiful voice. Thank you (and my mom) for giving me a wonderful gift, the love of musical theater. I'll love and remember you always.

I had the privlage of talking to Mr Goulet from my home in San Diego, Ca. His cousin Lynn (mother is a Goulet) was my roommate, called him when he was in town and he took the time to call her back. Which, to me, shows a "family man". He will be missed.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
