Melanie and I were saddened to hear the news of Bob Greenberg's passing. I was AGA president in 1990, when the Governing Board agreed that the Association was simply too large to continue under external management. Thus, I was given the difficult task of filling the position of Executive President. Utilizing a search firm we finally selected Bob, and he initiated and guided the transformation of the AGA into the effective National office that exists today. In his learning phase Bob used to come to me for advice, referring to me as his 'rabbi', so we got to know each other well. He always reminded the Governing Board that he was there to carry out their policies, not to create policies for them. In that way he started the organizational education for myself, a process that continued for subsequent Presidents until his retirement. For creating our national office, we will always be grateful to Bob for his skill and vision. But in addition for Melanie and me, he will be remembered as a good friend and a gentle presence over many years. We offer our condolences to Ann and to the rest of his family, and hope that their many memories will sustain them during this period of grieving.

I was the first AGA President to work with Bob in 1990, The AGA owes a great deal of its current success to his creativity .He was a true innovator and a good friend .I am deeply saddened . Sidney Cohen , Philadelphia Pa.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Bob's death - he was so much a part of all that the AGA has become today starting from the very amateurishly run society of academics that it was when he joined us - he had a grand vision for the AGA that transcended the limited scope of the ever changing cast of Presidents that he served - he also brought to the AGA many outstanding managers who will carry his vision forward into the future - in this way he will have had lasting impact on a whole profession - few can claim that honor as he can - I will miss him greatly - my condolences to Bob's family and all who loved him

Bob was a trusted confidant to nearly two dozen AGA and foundation presidents, providing invaluable insights that seemed tailored to the individual leaders and times but always maintaining AGA welfare as the highest priority. Probably no other single person contributed more to AGA's success in the last 40 years. He was strong, moxey and a good friend.
