HARPER - Dr. Robert P.
Passed away unexpectedly on June 4, 2022, while on a fishing trip surrounded by family and friends. Dr. Harper was a husband, father, brother, friend, mentor and leader. He was born August 25, 1944 to Ruth and Paul V. Harper of Grand Island, NY. He is survived by his wife, Christie; children: Beau (Heather), Thomas, Scott, Paul (Janet), and Chris; siblings: Carol Rolfe (Harold), Paul (Donna), and Margaret (Dave); grandchildren: Maya, Carissa, Patrick, Leah, Bethany, Daniel, Jonathan, Jade, and Grey; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Dr. Harper attended Riverside High School and joined the United States Army upon graduation. He became an officer while pursuing his bachelor's degree in biology at Ohio State University. After obtaining his degree, he continued to serve as a captain and general's aide during the Vietnam War. After completing his service, he attended Ohio State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, earning his degree in 1974. He returned to Grand Island, NY, where he and his business partner founded a group of veterinary practices, now known as Buffalo Veterinary Group. Dr. Harper was a consummate family man who was always willing and available to help, love, and support anyone who needed it. He was a mentor to many, always willing to provide advice, tell a story or lend his opinion. He dedicated his life to veterinary medicine and providing great care to all pets. As a leader in the veterinary field he was known for his surgical expertise. He loved hunting and fishing and spent his last days on the French River, a fishing retreat he had been going to for over 60 years. Services will be private and held for the immediate family.
