When I think of Bobby I always get a smile on my face. He was always up for a good time. His laugh was especially infectious. I can hear it now and it makes me grin. I haven't kept in touch with Bobby over the years, but I always considered him a friend. I am very sorry to hear of his passing. He was way too young.

I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. I knew Bobby in high school and we joked, laughed and talked about many things. I also have vivid memories of helping Bobby through his junior year chemistry class.....for some reason he thought I could help him so we spent many days pouring through notes, writing our summaries and making hand gestures that would help remind him of chemistry concepts. To this day, as I have evolved into a chemistry teacher (Bobby must have seen something in me back in 1974) I still use some of the hand gestures and have always termed them the Hastings Hint. I am sitting in my science classroom right now, saddened by this news, yet buoyed by my fond memory, knowing that through the years while our paths diverged, I held on to that memory and many more of him. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him and may his family receive strength and comfort from the obvious outpouring of love from all who crossed paths with Bobby through the years. - Danny Meyer

To all the Hastings....the only solace I take in ths tragedy is that Bobby is in some very good company up there. As most people will, I'll never forget his laugh, his smile, his warmth, and all those summers in Smallwood where we laughed until we cried. You have always been in my heart, and you always will be. My prayers and thoughts will be with you always. Your favorite cousin....

September 26, 2011

I don't really know what to say except that what I remember most about my cousin Bobby is his laugh and smile. Each time you saw him you got a big hug and a huge smile that lit up the room. He will be missed and I wish all who knew him and loved him peace.

Wishing the best to Bobby’s Family through these hard times. Though I will not be able to attend the gathering and celebration of his life it is important to me, for ALL to know, that my thoughts are with you and that if in ANY way, shape, or form I can fill any voids created by this loss, please do not hesitate to call. Bobby and I have shared many happy and sad times over our 45 plus years as ‘brothers’. One of the most important lessons he has taught me is that actions speak louder than words. It is these actions that will prove to be what we are known and remembered for. Bobby shared with me the fact that he takes time to read the Bible and I know for sure, he knew, that by exercising faith in Jesus and trying to walk in his ways affords everlasting life (John 3:16). It is in times like these that we turn to the Bible for answers to questions. Please take time to find comfort in scriptures that I have located and cited. I have had the pleasure to experience with Bobby much what is described in

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
(such is captured in the song: Turn, Turn, Turn, by the Byrds)

1 For everything there is an appointed time, even a time for every affair under the heavens: 2 a time for birth and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to uproot what was planted; 3 a time to kill and a time to heal; a time to break down and a time to build; 4 a time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to wail and a time to skip about; 5 a time to throw stones away and a time to bring stones together; a time to embrace and a time to keep away from embracing; 6 a time to seek and a time to give up as lost; a time to keep and a time to throw away; 7 a time to rip apart and a time to sew together; a time to keep quiet and a time to speak; 8 a time to love and a time to hate; a time for war and a time for peace.

The Bible explains death in familiar rather than mysterious terms. For example, it repeatedly likens dying to ‘falling asleep,’ and it describes dead people as “sleeping in death.” (Psalm 13:3; 1 Thessalonians 4:13; John 11:11-14) Death is also identified as an “enemy.” (1 Corinthians 15:26) More important, the Bible enables us to understand why death is like a sleep, why death afflicts mankind, and how this enemy will finally be defeated.

This is exactly how the Bible explains the condition of the dead. Ecclesiastes 9:5 states: “As for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all.”

Death is an enemy. The human race has many other common enemies, such as sickness and old age, which likewise cause much suffering. God promises to vanquish them all, finally passing sentence on mankind’s greatest foe. “As the last enemy, death is to be brought to nothing.”—1 Corinthians 15:26.
With that promise fulfilled, we will enjoy perfect life, unmarred by sin and death. Meanwhile, we can take comfort in knowing that our dead loved ones are resting, and if they are in God’s memory, they will be resurrected in his due time.

I will find you Bobby, should I be deemed worthy, in God’s Kingdom that will come.

Bob’s friends and family are free, if they wish, to call or email; please do not hesitate.

- with love and comfort ……… across the miles
