Died in Ottawa on 12 November 2017. Born in Toronto 13 November 1923. Early years in Hamilton 1927-1943 with parents Isabella (Ludlow) and Robert Lyle Haughton. Beloved husband of the late Aileen (Mullan) 1949-1976 and the late Alice (Hives) 1977-2008. Loving father of three daughters and one son, all of Ottawa: Roberta, Anne (Marcel Chiasson), Maureen (Michael Boisvert) and James (Louise DesLauriers). Grandfather of Luke (Miriam) and Aileen (Darryl), Christianne (Tom), Marc (Kathryn) and Benjamin, and Great Grandfather of eleven. Brother of William Haughton, formerly of Hamilton, Ontario and now in Ottawa, Ontario, and cousin of Ruth Hancock, Toronto, Ontario. April 1941 in Hamilton Bob won the Ontario Junior Weightlifting Championship, 132 lb. class. Graduated from Delta Collegiate in 1942. Joined Bell Canada in 1946, retired in Ottawa 1983 as Assistant Director Telecom Standards, following a decade of involvement with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), an agency of the United Nations, for telecom standards, Geneva, Switzerland. Provided presentations entitled 'Canada and the Digital World' to Canada, Greece, Japan, Scotland, Switzerland, NATO Headquarters in Belgium, and the Pentagon in Washington D.C.. In 1990, with the support of Bell Canada, Bob initiated a course: 'Telecommunications Engineering', at Carleton University in Ottawa featuring a unique teaching alliance with a number of telecom industry leaders, government regulatory agencies and university professors. His family graciously thanks the staff, nurses, PSW's and Doctors at Revera's Landmark Court and Colonel By Residences, and his personal doctor for many years, Dr. Leonard Bloom. A private family service was held at Pinecrest Cemetery. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, 685 Walkley Road in Ottawa on Saturday November 25, 2017 at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Dementia Society - Ottawa and Renfrew County would be appreciated.

Anyone fortunate enough to have met Bob Haughton was almost immediately charmed by his ebullient nature and positive energy. Bob was a tireless ambassador for telecommunications systems and networks, and I was part of the inaugural offering of the Telecommunications Engineering (94.470) course at Carleton University in 1991 ... because I asked Bob a single question. My wife and I were honored to spend time with Bob and Alice on a few occasions, but we grew apart due to time pressures associated with our own child rearing. I am deeply-saddened to only now learn of Bob's passing. Like wisdom acquired from a parent, I frequently reflect on Bob's sage advice & our conversations over the years. We've lost - and miss - a bright candle.

Bob was one of the most memorable professors of my engineering. 94.470 was the best course I ever took in 1992. It inspired me to become a network engineer. Bob was the spark that lit my fire. Thanks Bob ! A life very well lived indeed. His kids should be proud

To all the Haughton family.
We are both sorry to hear of Bob's passing. My memory of Bob goes back to when he hand-made a telescope, in the basement, in north Toronto which gave me my first view of the moon...close up while being set upon a kitchen chair!!
