Robert Hubka

HUBKA , Robert L. (Bob) Passed away peacefully at the Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre in Claresholm on July 17, 2009. Bob, beloved husband of Rosella Hubka of Claresholm, is survived by his daughters, Christine (Ron) Haydon of Calgary, Pat (Norm) Canuel and Colleen (Rick) Penner, all of Claresholm and his son, Joe (Erika) Izack of Lethbridge. He is also survived by his seven granddaughters, five grandsons, ten great-grandchildren, brother-in-law, Len Bach, sister-in-law, Beulah Hubka, both of Claresholm, and Rosella's brother Ed O'Kane and sister, Mary (Ray) Demerst and family. Bob was predeceased by his father, Frank and sister, Mary in 1933, three sons, Donald in 1956, Allan in 1957 and Leslie in 1967, his mother, Bessie in 1960, brothers, John in 1986, Frank in 1994 and Rudy in 1997, his sister Josephine in 1991 and his grandson, Michael Izsak in 1993. Bob was born April 26, 1924 on the farm south-west of Carmangay, attended Ryckman School until it closed, then finished in Carmangay. He farmed most of his active life with Rosella, taking times to travel with family and just the two in later years. Bob was a Lion member since 1947, which gave the opportunity to serve as District Governor. Holding this position involved a trip to Tokyo for Lion's International Convention. Traveling this distance made it a good trip to see several countries other than Japan. Along with two cruises and trips across Canada and the United States, life had pleasures as well as some trials. Bob started a hobby in 1945 of writing in year books about weather, happenings etc., and has one for each year since. However, there are a few pages skipped! Bob served on many committees, including curling clubs in Carmangay and Claresholm, hall boards, hospital boards, fire protection and the Knights of Columbus. He and Rosella have been faithful members of Christ the King Catholic Church for many years. Bob was the last remaining child of Frank and Bessie Hubka, one of the true pioneer farm families of the Carmangay area, a heritage of which he was extremely proud. He will be fondly remembered for his love of farming and dedication to family.
