I had the privilege of knowing Bob as an intern and colleague. He always struck me as a kind and generous person. His ethos will be remembered by those who cared for him. That is an important thing.

To Bob's family & friends,
It has been many years since I last visited with Bob (1991); I am very saddened to hear of his passing. I worked with him for 4 short years at Dr. McCann's office on Ottawa St., soon after Bob started practicing optometry. We as a small staff not only worked together daily but developed ever-lasting friendships. I could see that Bob's patients really enjoyed coming in to the office. His professionalism, friendly manner and quick wit I am sure left them feeling warm and fuzzy, yet secure in knowing that they have been well taken care of. I cherish those years; the TGIF drinks at the Majestic Tavern; the boating on Lake St.Clair; many funny stories and a few jokes thrown in always made for another great day at the office. It certainly wasn't dull. And the fact that you were Pete's cousin was a bonus.
Bob, I know that you had a close-knit family and many, many friends in your lifetime. You had a great impact on us and knowing you our lives have been enriched. Thanks for squeezing us all in.

Dr. Hupka,
We never met but I received a scholarship that you sponsored when I graduated from St. Anne High School in 2006. The financial support meant a lot to me going into my first year of univeristy and I remain very grateful for your generosity to this day.
My deepest condolences to Dr. Hupka's friends and family.

Uncle Bob,
To say your passing is a shock doesn't do justice what your absence from our lives will mean to so many people. Timmy, Gerry, you and my dad have been the four musketeers for as long as I can remember. You're departure from them has left them broken hearted and lost.
You were always the one to plan the vacations, the parties, weekly get togethers at Shotz or in your always open garage. You were there with a smile, a squeeze and some witty and albeit sometimes inappropriate remark, joke or funny story no matter how you were feeling. You had a lot of physical pain and aliments yet never let it keep you from doing and or participating in everything that you could.
Coming from a small family like ours I know my dad thought of you not only as a cousin and best friend but a true brother. The one who was always there for him when his own family could no longer be.
Thank you for always including me for as long as I can remember in all the events even though I'm a girl and always making me feel welcome... I will miss your weekly Shotz lunch visits more than you will ever know. Though not my uncle by blood you are in my heart,
For all those who loved you and will continue to miss you we can only take comfort that you are at peace, pain free and having a cold coors light, sitting on some golf course in heaven relaxing with Uncle Pete. Until we meet again.
Love always,
Katie

My deepest sympathies go out to Bob's family and many friends. I haven't seen Bob in a few years, but will always cherish his kindness and tremendous generosity. He took me aside early in my CL selling days and gave me invaluable advice that has stayed with me forever.
If there's a golf course in heaven he will be saying to his "partner" "hey two things wrong with that shot, you hit and I didn't". Bob was one hell of a guy, thanks for all the late nights, Pub crawls, Lions and Tigers games, puttimng lessons in your back yard and for letting me back into a golf game every once in a while. Rest in peace Bob rest in peace.

I cannot descibe the sadness that came over me when I learned of my dear friends passing. He was one of the most generous and thoughtful persons I have ever known.
He was the "benchmark" when it came to the game of golf. We all went out hoping to beat the great Bobby Hupka at the game of golf, few us ever did.
His efforts to coordinate the hundreds of golf outings that he put together brought together hundreds of strangers, but at the end of day, left as friends.
I am truly sorry I am not able to be with the Hupka family this day, but my thoughts and prayers are with you.
I would like to be there to share some of the great stories and memories I have, maybe some other time

RH.
Thirty three years.
You introduced me to boating and you taught me how to drive a boat. We searched high and low from Stoney Point to Amherstburg when it was time to buy my first boat. You insisted on buying lunch that day but I left you money under the armrest of the front seat. (You never knew). When I bought my first house on the lake, it was with your approval. When you opened up shop late in the evening to remove a piece of insulation from my eye, I left you a bottle of CR between your front doors. (You never knew). Last Christmas you and Carol, (Mick), were over for our first annual MacNeil Christmas. You spent most of the evening in the bathroom. This year I bought 2 top end toilets, (You never knew).
When Maria brought the girls in for their eye exam, you made it fun and exciting. You would tease them by asking Laura and Amanda who was their favorite aunt. Was it Aunt Mick or was it Aunt Mare? Their answers left you responding that you could have fun with this.
I have enjoyed seeing you and Mick so happy together this past year and a half. You have brought laughter and happiness to the MacNeil family.
I would like to end this with a parting sarcasm we've shared between us over the years, but I think I'll wait until we meet again in the big lakes up in sky. This time you get the 16 foot Cutter, and I get the 20 foot Sea Ray.
E.
