Robert Hay Hurley

Of Essex, CT died on June 13, 2008, at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, CT after a long struggle with complications from a stroke he suffered on May 1, 2008. Robert was born in Portland, ME on November 1, 1927 and grew up in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, Dorchester, MA and Brookline, MA. Robert served in the US Navy in World War II and graduated in 1952 from the Harvard School of Architecture and Design. He worked as a Color Consultant and Designer for General Motors, Formica and several wall covering companies. He retired as an independent consultant in 2001. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Jeanne A. Hurley. Robert is survived by his four children and their families: Deborah A. Hurley, Upton, MA, Karen E. Hurley, Upton, MA, Roberta J. Hurley, and husband Christopher Curran of Ivoryton, CT, and Robert H. Hurley Jr. and Kate Hurley of Sydney, Australia. Robert has three grandchildren, Sarah Jeanne Curran, Ivoryton, CT, Henry James Hurley, Sydney, Australia and James Robert Hurley, Sydney, Australia. Robert is also survived by his sister in law Elizabeth Perrin of Falmouth, MA. Robert was a loving husband, father, uncle and grandfather and leaves behind a legend. Robert was a lover of story telling, music, fishing, boating and reading. Services will be held at Saint Mark's Church in Westbrook, CT on June 26th at 11AM, with a reception immediately following the service.
