Robert William Jenkins passed away on the evening of his 76th birthday, January 8, 2024, with his daughters and sister by his side. He is survived by two daughters, Aislynn Combs (Timothy) and Elizabeth Jenkins (Travis Braasch), sister Fran Greene, two nieces, a great-niece, and a host of other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert M. Jenkins and mother, Frances "Marie" Jenkins. As a young boy, Bobby, enjoyed spending time on his grandparents farm in
Quincy, FL. Hunting, fishing, raising cattle for Future Farmers of America and paling around with his dog "Buster", were some of his most beloved past times in his youth. In 1967 he graduated from Paxon Senior High School and then served our country as an aircraft electrician in the Naval Air Reserve allowing him to see different parts of the world.
Robert was an electrician by trade being a member of the IBEW Local 177. Throughout his career he was also a project manager, estimator and then, business owner of Jentech Alarm and Services. He worked on projects at the Florida Deaf & Blind School, Mandarin High School, Naval Air Station Jax and was entrusted with the security of numerous other local businesses and family homes. While he considered himself to have a successful work life, he always felt his two greatest accomplishments were his daughters.
Prior to suffering a debilitating stroke in 2011, Robert enjoyed riding his motorcycles with buddies in the Moose Riders, dressing up as Santa Clause for the kids at Moosehaven, shooting pool with buddies and taking his youngest daughter on poker runs.
It wasn't until the last few months of his life that he admitted he always believed Jesus is Lord and that he just didn't talk about it. This is evident in the way he chose to live life, trusting in himself, helpful to the greater good, living simply, quest to brighten other people's days and protecting and providing for his family.
Six years ago Robert became a full-time resident of Palm Gardens Nursing Home. At the time, it was expected for him to stay only 6 months as he had stage 4 melanoma and dementia. Thank you to the nursing staff who cared daily for him. It wasn't always easy, but always very much appreciated.
We can not give enough praise to the Community Hospice staff at Baptist Downtown who cared for our father in his final days. Don and his team were utterly amazing, responding to each of our needs differently, especially for the way they showed loving care for our father. A simple "thank you" is not enough to express our gratitude.
Robert was cremated and will be taken on his last (motorcycle) ride on Saturday, March 16, 2024, following a Celebration of Life service at 11 AM at Beaches Chapel located at 610 Florida Blvd.
Neptune Beach, FL. Lunch will be served following his service with a motorcycle ride anticipated to start at 1 PM. (Anyone who'd like to participate in the ride down A1A, is encouraged to do so.) The ride will end at Camachee Cove Yacht Harbor where the family will embark to the nearest amberjack fishing hole and by his request release his remains to the ocean.
