KANE, ROBERT COHOES - Robert Kane, 80, of Cohoes died peacefully on September 26, 2011 at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Troy he was the son of the late Martin and Margaret Kane. Mr. Kane was a graduate of Catholic Central High School and was retired from the Troy Fire Department. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed his time at his hunting camps on Johnson Pond and in Westport. Bob was a former member of the Empire State Grenadiers Sr. Drum and Bugle Corp., the New York State Army National Guard, the Troy Uniformed Fire Fighters Associations and member of the Troy Retired Fire Fighters Association. Survivors include his sister, Mary Matthews of Latham, brother, William Kane of Derry, NH and nieces and nephews, Barbara Willoughby, Jay Matthews (Denise), Patrick Matthews, Geraldine Tongel, Michael Kane (Patricia), Kathy Kane, Michael Maxwell (Lance), Christopher Kane and Susan Phillips (Billy). He was predeceased by his brother John Kane. Also survived by several nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews. Cremation was at the Gardner Earl Crematorium in Troy. Friends and family are invited to the Frank P. McDonald & Son Funeral Home 870 Second Avenue (124th & 125th Streets) in Lansingburgh on Friday from 4 to 7 pm. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday at 10am from Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Latham. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery in Troy. In lieu of Flowers please make donations to the Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12147

As a young firefighter and union member I looked up to and respected Bob. He was someone to be trusted and counted on.
