Bob Kantor, founder of Memphis Minnie's BBQ in San Francisco died Monday, December 9, 2013.
Bob was born in the Bronx, New York, but lived for over 30 years in San Francisco. He and his wife, Gail Wilson, had recently relocated to Asheville, NC after traveling the U.S. for five years in their beloved motorhome, "The Big Girl". Bob had many passions and interests but BBQ was number one. His restaurant, Memphis Minnie's BBQ Joint and Smokehouse, named for his mother who was born in Memphis, TN, was his dream. Memphis Minnie's will live on and continue to serve the amazing BBQ of which he was so proud. His generosity, sense of humor, honesty and artistic creativity will be sorely missed.
Bob is survived by his wife, Gail Wilson; his son, Benjamin Victor Kantor and daughter-in-law, Aditi Naik; his brother, Charles Kantor; cousins Richard Kantor and his wife Amanda Eigen, and Alan Kantor and his wife Lisa; beloved aunt and uncle, Ramon and Lynn Kantor.
A memorial will be held in San Francisco at a date to be announced.

I first met Bob when he appeared, straight from Brooklyn, on the doorstep of my "hippie commune" in the early '70s in Oakland. His generous spirit and irrepressible presence light up so many years of memories. It's hard to believe he's gone; he left us with so much. Heartfelt love to Gail and Ben and the huge community of family and friends who mourn his passing. Anita

I honestly can't imagine the world without Bob's vibrant personality in it. I met Bob through his wife Gail. As an individual, he was a hoot and a holler. Together, they were a dynamic duo. My condolences to Gail and Bob's friends and family. He will be so very missed.
