Robert Crowe Keating, age 95, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on February 22nd, 2025, at his home in Indian Land, SC.

The son of the late Daniel J. and Rita Crowe Keating, Bob was born June 3, 1929 in Albany, NY. Bob resided in Upstate NY before moving to Indian Land, SC in 2011. He attended the former Vincentian Institute in Albany, NY, and went on to graduate from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering. Bob proudly served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War.

Bob spent his career as a civil engineer in the Bridge Design Division of the NYS Dept. of Transportation, having designed many bridges and highway interchanges that stand today.

Bob married his beloved wife of 64 years, Ruth A. Delahoyd, in 1960 in Albany, NY. They settled in Clifton Park, NY, where they lived for 45 years, proudly raising their five children before moving to South Carolina.

In addition to his wife Ruth, Bob is survived by his five children: Daniel (Janice) of Alexandria, VA, Jennifer (James) Ferraro of Westwood, MA, Susanna (Robert) Ryan of Milton, MA, Deborah (Thomas) Weisberg of Waxhaw, NC and Benjamin (Jennifer) Keating of Medfield, MA. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren: Brendan and Anna Keating, Kenneth and Michael Ferraro, Matt, Ben and Grace Ryan, Emily, Lydia and Bobby Weisberg and Emma, Julia, Katie and Thomas Keating. Bob was predeceased by his sisters Virginia (Jerome) Greiner and Constance (John) Elliott.

In his retirement years, Bob enjoyed reading, golf, history and spending time with his wife and grandchildren. He had a brilliant mind and a lifelong interest in reading and learning. He consumed books voraciously and could recite facts and compute figures with ease. In tracing the history of his family heritage, Bob authored a book about the Civil War experience of his great uncle, Simon O'Dea. "Uncle Simon" was killed at the battle of Cold Harbor, VA in 1864. Bob's book, Carnival of Blood, is a regimental history of the NY 7th Heavy Artillery Regiment, and is critically acclaimed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12pm on Wednesday, February 26th, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Lancaster SC, with Fr. Jeffrey Kirby as Celebrant. Friends and family are invited. Burial will be at a later date at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Saratoga, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org.

I used to watch Mr. Keating wash and meticulously wax that Lincoln Continental just about every Sunday. I think I bounced the basketball of it once . He took that ball , bounced it a couple three times and made this awesome shot with a swish. He humbly asked Danny if we could find something else to do while he finishes up the car and then he´d play a game of horse with us. Incredible role model.
