Robert "Bob" LaPoint

Robert F. "Bob" LaPoint, age 85, of Drummond Island, Michigan, died Wednesday, November 4, 2015, in Cedarville. He was born April 20, 1930, in DeTour to Paul Felix and Marion Isabella (Bell) LaPoint.
Bob grew up in DeTour and then attended Michigan State University for two years. He served in the United States Army in Germany during the Korean War. Bob returned to DeTour and worked for Standard Oil for fourteen years.
Bob married D. Patricia "Pat" Cleary on March 5, 1966, in Newberry, Michigan. They made their home in DeTour and Drummond Island.
Bob was an entrepreneur who worked all of the time. He owned and operated several different types of businesses over the years and enjoyed the challenges of each.
Bob served terms on the board of directors of the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians and the War Memorial Hospital.
Bob is survived by his wife, Pat; sons, Paul (Lareen) LaPoint, Alec (Kristen) LaPoint, Rob (Jennifer) LaPoint; daughter, Marian (Bill) Burton; fifteen grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.
Bob is preceded in death by son, Charles C. LaPoint; and sister, Pauline Tominack.
Visitation will be on November 7, 2015 from noon until 1:30 p.m. at R. Galer Funeral Home in Pickford, Michigan. Funeral services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Larry Whitte will be conducting.
Burial will be at Hills Cemetery in Detour Village, Michigan.
