Robert William Lemke
Bob passed away peacefully the morning of May 20, 2013 surrounded by his family. Born November 20, 1937, Bob grew up in Humboldt and attended St. Peter's College. He met Elizabeth (Bette) McIvor at Saskatoon Business College and they married in June, 1957. In the subsequent 55 years they raised 5 children, Tim (Moira), Terry, David (Andre), Marcia (Todd Greenwood) and Michelle (Vance Phair) and were blessed with 11 grandchildren (Caolan, Rory and Ian Lemke, Oliver, Julian, Harrison, and Westley Lemke, Jesse (Suzette) and Shaed Greenwood, Zach and Josh Phair and one great grand-daughter (Lillian Greenwood). Bob is also survived by his sister Lenore Banders who came from California to help care for him in the final weeks of his life. Bob spent many years on the university campus working in finance and administration at Saskatchewan Research Council and then St. Thomas More College, where after retirement he served on the Board of Governors. It is a tribute to Bob that the friendships forged in those workplaces were maintained until his passing. Bob and Bette retired to Elbow in 1997 where he indulged his love of sailing, golf, motorcycles and coffee groups at the local cafés. He had been looking forward to boring his friends with stories of his recent health crises, holding his great-granddaughter and "2 wheels." His other goal was to park the lounger in the back yard, fill a tub with ice and savour 100 different kinds of beer- so let's all do our part to fulfill that final wish, shall we? The family would like to express their appreciation for everyone's prayers and well- wishes, and especially for the care given by the doctors and nurses on the Cardiac Ward and in the ICU and CCU at RUH. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Royal University Hospital Foundation. Prayers will be held at St. John Bosco RC Church at 7 p.m., Thursday May 23rd. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday. Committal Service will take place on Saturday in Elbow Cemetery at 2 p.m., followed by stories and sandwiches at the Harbour Golf Club Tournament Building.
