Robert was 5, I think, when I met him. Rob brought him to work one weekend for "Bring your son to work" day, or something. It was a long time ago, 1988 or '89.
Rob brought him around to introduce him to the different departments. While we talked to him in kids' terms about what we do as Respiratory Therapists. He had the most beautiful, sparkling blue eyes. He had a sweet smile that I learned he got from Deb - when I met her.
It was a busy day, especially for his dad, so Carole and I took him to the cafeteria for lunch. He loved being the guests of two RT's., who showed him the gift shop. We got him crayons and a coloring book. And, one of those books that you had to have that special marker to "color" with.
He was so sweet, soft-spoken, and animated, which remained into his adulthood.
I loved Robert as if he was my own son. He knew it. Not to say we didn't bump heads in the almost 29 years he's been my son. I'm an Aries ram, he was a Sagittarius centaur/archer.
On November 25, 2023, that archer's arrow struck and shattered my heart. He was a vicious hunter that day. I'm devastated.
We are wrecked and heartbroken. I am thankful to the UF Shands heart team for managing his VAD and giving us those extra years to love, spoil, and cherish him. Thank you to all of you for being in Robert's life and loving him, whichever stage of his life you knew him. PLEASE HOLD UP MY JENNY, because without her we would have lost him 12-13 years ago. But, EACH AND EVERYDAY, my Jenny has been there lovingly taking care of him and kept him with us until his passing. Please keep Kohen and Kaelyn in your thoughts and prayers. My love to you all,
Joann
