I note with sadness Bob's death, and raise him up in prayer to our Heavenly Father, that he be given a place of light, refreshment and peace. AND that the Good Lord say to him, "Well done my good and faithful servant. Now enter the place I have prepared for you from the beginning of all time. Welcome Home, Bob.
I am a subscriber to OSV publications, and have always enjoyed, even looked forward to, Bob's columns. As a Baby Boomer Catholic I could always resonate with Bob's memories and perspective. Truly a Salt-of-the-Earth Catholic gentleman and scholar.

I'll miss you in my world. My sweet good boy.

I was sadden to read of Bob's passing. I enjoyed his columns in OSV over the years and felt that I knew him more than just as a columnist, but a friend. We corresponded once via email and was happy he took the time. He was old-school and even a Mets fan, but most of all true to the one true faith. May his soul rest in peace. Prayers and yes, thoughts, to the family.

I worked for Bob from the time he first came to Our Sunday Visitor until he became President of the company. He was not only my boss but I considered him a good friend. I always admired his sense of humor, his compassion, and his deep faith. He shall be missed by so many.

Theresa, Ben and Family, so very sorry for your loss. My prayers and thoughts are with you all in this difficult time. He is joining now with many loved ones in a better place where he is at peace.

Dear Cindy, Ryan and Theresa, So sorry to hear about Bob. He was a good man.....good to work with and for. I loved his sense of humor and really enjoyed his great laugh when I got the best of him before he did me. Will never forget him. Thinking of you all and praying for you.

So sorry to hear about Bob's passing. As others have mentioned here, he was an inspiring giant in the world of Catholic publishing and a friend to everyone who met him at the Catholic Press Association functions. He set the model for lay Catholic publishers and we will treasure the legacy he left us!

Dear Theresa and Ryan, please accept the sympathies of the Smith family. Your dad was a special fellow. I enjoyed knowing him when you were children at SJB. Upon his return to Fort Wayne I enjoyed reading his reflective pieces in the JG. A shame to lose him so young.

We met Bob at a Lutheran Hospital support group where he shared his wisdom, encouragement, faith and smile with other survivors. Thank you Bob. You will be missed.

May he be safe in the Lord's arms.

I am sorry to hear of Bob's passing. I had the pleasure of working with Bob at the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Bob had the wonderful ability to make you laugh no matter how tough of a situation you might have been. You are in a much better place, Bob!

Bob was a gifted writer and a wonderful mentor. He was the first person to encourage me to write for the Catholic press and always offered his support as I progressed in my career. I was inspired by the deep appreciation for his Catholic faith expressed so clearly yet eloquently in his own writing. He will be greatly missed by all of us in the Catholic press who were blessed to know him.

Bob was so encouraging to me as a young Catholic journalist in the early 1980s, giving me opportunities as a freelance writer for OSV and also during our interactions at Catholic press conventions. A truly wonderful man.

Bob was a consummate professional, a joy to know and work with and a faithful Catholic. Rest in peace my friend!
