Born in Sydney, he was the son of P.J. and Margaret (Gillis) Lynch. He was educated at St. Joseph's School and graduated from Sydney Academy. He furthered his studies at Saint Francis Xavier and Dalhousie universities. His business career in Sydney included founding Lynch Ice Company, Lynch Maroon Motors and Cape Breton Beverages Ltd., where he remained until his retirement. He was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus, the Royal Cape Breton Yacht Club, the Lingan Golf and Country Club and the Stoneybrook Golf and Country Club of Sarasota, Florida, where he was a resident member. Bob especially enjoyed his hunting and fishing trips with his sons and had spent many summers since the early 1930s at the family property in Northside East Bay, where he could be found mowing the grass, operating the backhoe, boating and playing tarabish and bridge with his friends and family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Adeline (MacDonnell) Lyncy and six children, Colleen (Charles MacKinnon), Hugh (Ann Lynk), Roberta Lynch, Peter, Cathy (Bob) McDonald (with whom he resided) and D'arcy (Michele Mansfield) and daughter-in-law, Maureen (Prosser) Lynch. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Owen, Cara (Pakin), Kate and Laurel MacKinnon, Yuri and Sonya Lynk, Shannon and Bob Lynch, Colin, Brian and Melodie Need, Bridgette and Stephanie McDonald and Andrea Tomko and Daniel Lynch. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Marie Lynch-Peacock and Alice MacDonnell; brothers-in-law, Oscar (Doreen) MacDonnell and Steve MacAdam and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by son, Gregory Lynch (2004); brothers, Leo (Lale Downing) Lynch and John Lynch and sister, Margaret 'Peggy" Lynch.
Visitation will be held at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney, Monday, Dec. 28, 2009 from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday, Dec 29, 2009 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The funeral will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church at 11 am on Wednesday, Dec 30, 2009.
