Robert Maloney Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 7, 2025.
It is with deep sorrow and loving remembrance that we announce the passing of Robert "Bob" Maloney on January 17, 2025, at the age of 68. Bob was a beloved brother, uncle, mentor, coach, and friend, whose warmth, dedication, and passion for life touched the hearts of all who knew him.

Born in San Francisco on August 15, 1956, Bob was the youngest of the four brothers in the Maloney family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Betty Ann, and his brother, Kevin. Bob is survived by his brothers Peter (Elizabeth) and Dennis (Gloria), as well as his nieces Elizabeth, Lisa, and Maureen, his nephew Andrew, many loving great-nieces and nephews, Aunt Ginny, cousins and many life-long friends.

A proud graduate of St. Monica Catholic School and Riordan Boys Preparatory High School, Bob carried the values instilled in him during those formative years throughout his life.

Bob's love for his hometown teams- the San Francisco 49ers, Golden State Warriors, and San Francisco Giants- was matched only by his devotion to his family and community. He was a lifelong sports fan whose enthusiasm for the game was contagious. He often shared his excitement with friends and family, bringing joy and camaraderie wherever he went.

Bob was a dedicated educator, spending many years as an elementary school teacher, where he inspired generations of young minds. His patience, kindness, and ability to connect with his students left an indelible mark on their lives. Beyond the classroom, Bob's love for mentoring extended to the baseball field, where he coached youth baseball teams with a heart full of encouragement and guidance. His influence shaped countless young athletes, teaching them not just the fundamentals of the game but also the values of teamwork, respect, and perseverance.

After retiring from teaching, Bob found new ways to remain involved in the world of sports in the city he was so proud of, working as an usher for both the Golden State Warriors and San Francisco Giants. His pride in his role and unwavering support for his teams were evident as he helped fans enjoy the games he loved so much.

Bob's family and friends will always remember him for his loving nature, boundless energy, and deep sense of loyalty. He was a brother, uncle, mentor, and friend to so many, and his legacy of love, laughter, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a local youth sports organization or educational foundation in Bob's name.

Rest in peace, Bob. Your spirit will live on in every game played, every lesson taught, and every heart you touched.

As a celebration of life, a funeral mass will be held at St. Monica Catholic Church, 5920 Geary Blvd, San Francisco, on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 10:30am. Light refreshments will follow the mass for family and friends.

From the Dempsey Family will miss our baby sitter and mom´s baby sitting him.

So glad i(Feliza) had the privelage to work with him the last couple of years at the giants and warriors, people were shocked to learn of how we knew each other but Bob loved to tell that story.

As a Section 212 Giants fan and friend I am proud to have become acquainted with Bob. I use a wheelchair and he certainly provided the extra support (even if I didn´t need it) for me each game. I would text prior to my arrival and the seat would be removed for me to occupy the space. As with many we talked a lot of sports but didn´t leave out solving the world´s problems. He shared his history of SF which I appreciated since I arrived here in 1990. RIP Bob. Go Giants!!

Bob was my fellow usher & colleague with the San Francisco Giants. Although I didn't actually work regularly with Bob, I always found our interactions very pleasant and I always learned something from him; whether it was about baseball or life or anything else. He will definitely be missed. He will always be Forever Giant.

I miss Bobby already. We coached youth baseball and soccer together a few years back. I appreciated his commitment, genuine care and enthusiasm towards the kids...no failures, just teaching moments! It was also fun to run into him at PacBell/AT&T/Oracle and at the Chase Center. Prayers for Bobby´s friends and family. May he rest in peace.

Thank you for a lovely tribute to Bob. So many memories return... playing at Fulton Playground, sharing penny-ante poker in Bob´s garage, and hearing a million stories that he told. Bob was unstoppable and a good friend. I´ll miss him.

I had the privilege of working with Bob in both Mill Valley and Corte Madera schools. He had a bright smile, a fantastic giggle laugh, and a warm energy that kids gravitated to and connected with every time he was on campus. I will cherish the stories he shared (we shared a lot of laughs!) and his unwavering spunk. "Mr. Bob" as the kids affectionately called him, will be remembered as a favorite substitute teacher, and a strong willed compassionate human with a great sense of humor. I am so grateful that I got to know Bob, he´s the kind of person you meet and you don´t forget them. May we all cheer a little louder at every 49er touchdown and sing a little louder during the seventh-inning stretch knowing Bob is cheering and singing alongside us, too.

I am so sad to learn of this news. Bob was a beloved member of our Neil Cummins subbing staff and an integral part of our community. His enthusiasm for teaching, kindness and thoughtfulness, and ability to connect with and motivate students were noteworthy. Bob was an essential part of our return to school during the pandemic, safely supporting teachers when we had to be out due to exposures or having Covid. He knew our school community and was always there with a helpful, patient hand. We shared a love of the SF Giants, Warriors, and Niners, always sharing our opinions on how the teams were doing and relishing in our championship histories. He was a bright light in this world, spreading joy and care wherever he went. I'll always remember his exceptionally positive attitude and unflappable vibe. Travel in peace, Mr. Bob, you made an indelible mark and will be very much missed by many.

I worked with Bob at Cove and NC and Hall. I loved talking to him and he was so proud of his nieces and nephews. And I enjoyed seeing him at Giants games. My three kids thought having him as a sub was fun. Thinking of his family at this time..

I met Bob when he was subbing at The Cove School. I always enjoyed talking about the bygone years of San Francisco with him, and swapping growing-up-Irish-Catholic stories. Bob was a true gem and I miss him.

Definitely a class act and genuine person. Bob always went out of his way to greet his fellow Crusader Brothers! Met Bob in 1974 our Freshman Year at Riordan High School and was privileged to sit with him at our 50th year reunion last year!. Definitely will be missed but never will be forgotten. Honored to call you friend and brother.

Bobby's heart was pure gold, as was his joyful smile, uplifting personality, and deep brotherly friendship with his Riordan High School classmates and instructors. He was that special classmate I always looked forward to seeing every day, and I already dearly miss Bobby's steadfast spirit, positive attitude, confidence, personal encouragement and support. Heaven has added a very bright star indeed, and thank you Bobby for making this world a much better place for so many.

A good man down, no doubt. Bob was a classmate at RHS. He was always upbeat, cheerful and full of Crusader Spirit. He will be missed, never forgotten and very much appreciated as a classmate, friend and a classic City guy. Godspeed and R.I.P.
