Bobby Manchip was my very good friend as a child, living in the Dobie in Fredericton. His father was our music teacher in the Fredericton schools.

Bobby was three years older than I, so was something of a mentor, and teacher to me of the ways of the world by a much older person.

I traveled to school on many days with him and his father in their two-door Plymouth.

I remember that his mother and father would be affectionate with each other, always kissing good bye as we left; and Bobby and I were always amused by that.

In recent years, I met his mother, Thelma, often at Ste Anne's Court, where she resided in Fredericton. She kept me informed of Bob's whereabouts and goings on; and I always hoped to see him on one of his visits with her.

I am sorry that he is gone. He seems to have had a very good life; and I'm happy for that.
