Robert Marengo Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 30, 2025.
Robert George "Bob" Marengo, 88, passed away on April 22, 2025, in Worcester, Massachusetts, after a short illness. He was born on March 24, 1937, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to George Elmer Marengo and Ruth Catherine Marengo.

Bob studied Business Administration at Valparaiso University in Indiana and was a proud member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. In the early 1960s, he served in the U.S. Army National Guard.

In 1964, Bob met Betty Karn at a party in Indianapolis. Just three months later, he proposed, and they were married in April 1965 in Macy, Indiana. They raised two children-Michelle and Michael-and shared a life full of love and adventure. The family lived in Wisconsin before settling in the Hudson/Marlborough area of Massachusetts and later Bob and Betty moved to Mount Dora, Florida. On April 10, 2025, Bob and Betty celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a heartfelt FaceTime call between his hospital room and her nursing home room.

Bob built a successful career in sales and sales management for paper and industrial products. He worked for Rourke-Eno Paper Company in Wilmington, MA and later led a salesforce for Redd Paper Company in Orlando, FL. In retirement, he enjoyed part-time driving positions, which included the Disney World monorail, an airport limo, cars for local dealerships, and most fondly, driving local private school students to their doctor appointments. This last role earned him the endearing nickname of "Grandpa" among the many young lives he touched.

He treasured time with family, especially trips to Disney World and boating on Fort Meadow Reservoir. Bob was an active member of the Marlborough Country Club, where he and Betty enjoyed playing in the Friday night "Scotchie" league, making many lifelong friends. He was also a member of the Marlborough Lions Club, where he once served as "King Lion."

Bob took pride in his accomplishments, notably his remarkable hole-in-one achievement in Hawaii, a plaque for which he proudly displayed above his desk. His love for Boston sports was unmistakable; he held season tickets for the Patriots, Red Sox, and Celtics throughout the years. Friends and family will fondly remember his spirited cheering for New England teams, his enthusiasm ringing loud and clear even in his later years.

He leaves behind a loving family that will miss him dearly. His devoted wife, Betty, resides in Northborough, MA, along with daughter Michelle Marengo of Worcester, MA, and son Michael Marengo, accompanied by wife Beth, of Dudley, MA. Four grandchildren-David Youngerman of Worcester, MA, and Chase, Riley, and Owen Marengo of Dudley, MA-brought immense joy to his life. Surviving him also is his brother George Marengo and wife Kathy, of Raleigh, NC and many nieces and nephews.

Bob will be remembered for his warmth, strength, and unyielding love for his family. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him, and he will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered in the stories shared and the memories cherished.

In honoring their loved one's wishes, the family will not hold a public service or gathering. Instead, they invite you to take a moment for personal reflection and cherish the memories shared.

In a word "proud" Through every stage of life, I was proud to follow his values and success as my role model. While 7 years separated us, my big brother set the standard to follow. His teachers, teammates, classmates and friends all told me how lucky I was to have him as a brother. Will miss our talks and his love for Betty and the family.
