Robert Marshman

I think about Marshman often, I called him out of the blue a few years back,We had a great catching up chat,said I would try and stop by,I didn't.Just saw this after I did a search for him,Was thinking about him again,I'll continue to think about him often,Thanks Robert.

Robert Marshman was my art teacher for many mediums and disciplines. He was my academic advisor. I still hear his advice today. His strength and passion for the arts inspired me on so many levels. I shall not forget his encouragement and patience. His insight into the creative process was profound.
Thank you Mr. Marshman for taking us further than we could reach ourselves. Gene Campbell

I fondly remember Mr. Marshman (as an adult I learned to call him Robert) and many fun things about him. He could make up a tune and a rhyme impromptu and just sing it out! He would have us all in stitches! :)
As a kid our families would go to the Taco House and eat till we were totally full and Mason and my brothers and I would go play outside in the dirt parking lot while our parents would talk the night away, then we'd come back inside and eat a plate full of Sopapilla's! Those are sweet memories I have. I will miss Robert and will continue praying the Lord's comfort for the family as I know he will be missed by us all.

As an older returning art student I was impressed by Mr. Marshman's no-nonsense adherence to the rules of entering art in juried shows. I'm sure that younger students thought he was overly strict.
I recall his saying anyone who used hair spray to fix their art work would get a failing grade. He came by my easel one day and asked what i was using to fix my drawing, I replied, "Hairspray." The look on his face was horrifying! I said, "Just kidding!" as I pulled out my can of fixative.
I've thought of that class often. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing! I learned so much in his class! What a great teacher!

I am saddened to learn of Robert's death. As colleagues in the arts, we enjoyed periodic discussions in the halls of CFPA and at exhibition openings. Robert belonged to what I like to think of as the golden age of the Art Department at UWF. You are missed, old friend.

Professor Marshman was one of the kindest human beings I have ever met. I became acquainted with him long ago when I was Evening Supervisor of the Circulation Department at the UWF Library. He, like me, was a voracious reader and was so pleasant to talk with. I later married a Professor of Philosophy at UWF, Lawrence "Toby" Howe, and he was part of a regular group who played tennis with "Bob." Many years later after I had retired to do my "dream job" of being a housewife, through my husband, I became dear friends with the great Larry Caton--one of the most phenomenal tennis players Pensacola has produced. By this time, Larry was confined to a Nursing Home but still able to "hit the ball" and go out for lunch. Professor Marshman was among the many kind people who would take "Lar" out for lunch regularly. I only knew your husband and father through these interactions but, as you can see, he was inspirational and made a lasting impression on me. As a person who has always believed in loving kindness, he was a role model for all of us. Also, I saw his artwork and his students were fortunate not only to learn about art--but about how to be a compassionate human being. I am so sorry for your loss and will light a special candle in his honor.

Dear Glenda, Was deeply sadden to learn of Robert's death. I know he will be missed by all, especially me.
