Robert McAllister Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 30 to Dec. 31, 2022.
On Friday, December 23rd, 2022, Robert "Bob" McAllister, loving father of three and devoted chef passed away, at age sixty seven. Bob was born December 14, 1955, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to MaryAnn Cassidy (nee Loverdi) and raised by John Cassidy. He graduated from Saint John Neumann High School in 1973. He went on to excel in culinary school and became a renowned local chef famous for his crab cakes and Italian cuisine. Bob's time at the Dimmick Inn in Mildford, PA, proved to be a particularly bright spot in his career, attracting diners from New York city to drive in and dine after hearing about the chef's achievements. When Bob was not cooking up a storm in the kitchen, he enjoyed hunting in the mountains and crabbing off the docks in Wildwood, NJ with his children.

In September of 2021, Bob became a grandfather to Scarlet Anne McAllister. She brought him love, joy, light and always a reason to smile. Bob was subsequently diagnosed with stage four metastatic lung cancer one year later in September of 2022. Despite feeling fear of the unknown, he chose to fight with courage. Unfortunately, his cancer was far too aggressive and his battle was valiant but short. Bob was surrounded by family and friends in his final days, while reminiscing favorite memories and enjoying some of his most favorite foods: Kielbasa and sauerkraut, golumpkis, tomato pie from Varallo's, cannoli's from Termini's, and chocolate ice cream.

Bob was predeceased by his parents MaryAnn and John. Bob is survived by his children: Cassidy McAllister, Daniel McAllister, and Dennis McAllister; his sister, MaryAnn Cassidy Frist, and brothers, Joseph McAllister, and James (Jimmy) McAllister, and Michael Cassidy; he is also survived by his aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews as well as his granddaughter, Scarlet Anne McAllister. Bob could reliably be seen wearing a flannel and jeans when not sporting chef wear. Please join us on January 3rd, 2023 for a memorial service at Gloria Dei Old Swedes Church Parish Hall at 916 S Swanson St, Philadelphia, PA 19147 from 10am-1pm wearing your most favorite flannel in honor of Bob.

My big brother was truly one of a kind. We called him "The Grump" but he really wasn't. Behind his sometimes gruff exterior was a smile that was absolutely beautiful and a heart of gold. It may sound cliche, but he really was a beautiful soul. When he learned that he had a baby sister, he went out and bought me a dress with his paper route money; he was only 12. I was told that he used to take me out with him all the time when I was little. We were always close. In the last few years we started referring to each other as "brother" and "sister". May sound strange but it was definitely a term of endearment. I didn't have enough time with him, I wasn't ready to let him go. I hate that I won't hear him say "hey sister". My Grump, I will never stop yearning to hear your voice, or talk about food and cooking or just laughing with you. My heart is broken but it will mend in time holding onto our memories together. Until we meet again brother, I love you.

My big brother was truly one of a kind. We called him "The Grump" but he really wasn't. He has the most amazing smile. He always made me feel like I was special to him. When I was born, he went out and bought his baby sister a dress with his own money... he was only 12. I was told that he used to take me out a lot with him.

Bobby's children and granddaughter Scarlet were his world. No matter how bad he felt, he perked up when his kids were around. He also had a special love for my son Wyatt. He always offered encouragement to him.

Cooking with Bobby was fun. I used to feel intimidated because no one could cook like him, but he always complimented my cooking.

In our later years we somehow reverted to calling each other "sister" and "brother". It might sound strange but it was very endearing. My ears yearn to hear his voice saying "hey sister", my heart aches for our conversations and time together. Brother, you were taken too soon, I wasn't ready. I love you always. Your favorite sister
