ROBERT J. "BJ"
Age 51, of Lawrenceville, peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday, March 7, 2011. Beloved husband of Avis A. (Morris) McGrane; cherished father of Robert "Bobby" and Katie McGrane; caring son-in-law of Marlene Morris; dear son of Clara "Cookie" (Baden) and the late John J. "Baldy" McGrane, Sr.; brother of John (Darlene) McGrane, Jr., Trish (Perry) Hartge, Edward "Bud" (Mary) McGrane, Mickey, Tim, Suzie, and Dave McGrane; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Friends received at the WALTER J. ZALEWSKI FUNERAL HOME, INC., 216 44th St., Lawrenceville, Wednesday, Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass in St. Matthew Parish, St. Kieran Church, on Friday at 10 a.m. Robert served on the Carrier USS Kitty Hawk for 4 years.

It's been nearly 7 years since "Mac" died....I just discovered this today. After years of not getting a reply to texts, phone messages,Christmas cards I decided to Google his name to see if he still lived in the same place....I was shocked & saddened to find his obituary. The last time we talked Bob was in his truck plowing snow I asked him if we could go see a Cubs-Pirates or Blackhawks-Penguins game together....Bob of course said absolutely...just get here ! Bob sent me clippings about his father's death...How he was a World War II hero with 2 Bronze Stars.
In September 1986 Bob drove to Illinois...50 miles southwest of Chicago to be in my wedding....what a stand-up guy ! I repaid the favor by coming to Pittsburgh September 1989 for Bob & Avis's wedding. The Pewter mug the groomsmen were given is still sitting on my dresser....it's a treasure to me.
I feel terrible that I didn't know of his passing...I don't even know how Bob died....life is way too short. I'll have a Iron City pounder with you in heaven my Brother....Love You, Bruce

I am very saddened to learn of BJ's passing. He was a good egg. I just spent some time with him at our group 50th birthday party for the LCHS class of 1978.
I have many good memories of BJ from our school days and from the old Boys club and Leslie pool. He was very active in sports and a very fun and pleasant person to be around.
