Robert Louis Mega was born on Feb. 3, 1935, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Henry and Francis (Evans) Mega. Bob attended school in Brooklyn before being inducted into the U.S. Marine Corps on March 4, 1952, in Suffolk County, N.Y. He served his country honorably in the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on Dec. 20, 1954, in San Francisco, Calif.
Bob was united in marriage to Susan Stringer on July 11, 1964, at the St. Philip Neri in Northport, N.Y., and to this union two children were born, Keith Robert and Kristine Marie.
Bob was employed with U-Haul Manufacturing from 1964 until 1972. In 1972, the family moved to Kensett where Bob was employed with Kensett Homes for 15 years. Bob also was employed with Carrol George Manufacturing in Northwood until 1996 when he had to retire due to health problems.
Bob was an ordained Catholic deacon. He was ordained by Bishop Byrnes in 1982. Bob enjoyed being a deacon and visiting the sick and instructing altar servers.
His lifelong dream came true when he and Susan got to travel to Italy and see the pope. This was done in 2007 with Father McAndrew. Bob also enjoyed his two Schnauzers, Gus and Deacon II.
Bob was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly, and was a deacon and a CCD teacher at the church. Bob was also a Cub Scout leader in Kensett and a volunteer fire fighter for over nine years for the Northwood Volunteer Fire Department. Bob also enjoyed his activities at the church including involvement with the children, loved a good book, wood carving, gardening, flowers and artistic painting. Dear Sue,
My heart weeps with yours at the loss of your Beloved Bob. Memories flood my mind of you and Bob being our 'Prayer Partners' on our Marriage Encounter Weekend, and all the good, good times we had in the years that followed our Weekend. I will always remember Bob's assisting in Emmy's funeral, and how lovingly he spoke!
Bob is walking now with His Lord and Savior, and I'm sure Jesus prepared a Heavenly Feast for his home coming. Deacon Bob was a tower of strength to all who knew him, and he will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers remain with you and your family in the weeks and months ahead. If you need a listening ear in the middle of the night, Sue, please call.

God Bless and remember......

Dear Mrs. Mega
My thoughts and prayers are with you. I cannot tell you how much you how much you both meant to all of us when my grandmother (Arlene Kuennen) passed. Mr. Mega was wonderful and supportive and I hope this message and all the people close to you return the favor at this time. Mr. Mega will be missed. I can only imagine the number of people who he has touched and whose lives were better having known him.
