Bob came to Arlington VA back in the early 80s to visit his friend Fran Quinn for the weekend. We decided to play golf on Saturday at a challenging course called Penderbrook. It was crowded so they put a 4th player with us. After some talk on the 1st tee we found out our 4th played on the UNC golf team. Bob came over and said to Fran and me "I'm going after him". We said "Yea, right, Bob." After 18 holes, Bob had beat him by two strokes. There was a celebration which involved Bob and a small pond. He loved competition and he was a great guy.

I want to first and foremost extend my thoughts and prayers to Bob's family in a time of mourning. I am truly saddened to hear of Bob's passing, as I had the privilege of meeting Bob through a mutual friend, and enjoying his company golfing regularly on Saturday mornings at Emanon Country Club. Bob's swing was just as great as his personality, as he brought smiles and laughter to so many he met and played with through the years. He could shoot a 102 or 72, and he would always have a smile on his face, and care more about how others played that day and how they were doing - a true testament to his wonderful character. He will be missed by many, and my condolences are with his family and friends.
