Robert MIESSE Obituary

MIESSE Robert J., age 91, of So. Lebanon, OH passed away at his home on Thursday January 18, 2007. He was formerly from Lancaster and Amanda. He was bom August 5, 1915 in Amanda Township and graduated from Amanda High School in 1933. He attended Boeing School of Aeronautics in Oakland, CA and joined United Air Lines in 1937 where he served in various management and executive positions in New York, Washington D.C., Denver, Chicago, and Los Angeles before retiring in 1974. He was a veteran of WW II having served in the Army Air Corp. for two years. In retirement Bob moved to a farm house just outside his hometown of Amanda and enjoyed retirement years restoring it and working in his woodworking shop. He was an active member of the Amanda Lions Club for many years and was also a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife, C. Ora, whom he married in 1962; his sons, John S. (Linda) Miesse, Graham, WA; Terrell C. Miesse (Kathy Hentz), Tulsa, OK; and daughters, Roberta D. (Eric) Schimmel, Atlanta, GA; and Iva C. (Jeffrey) Staats, Lebanon, OH. He is also survived by two grandsons, five granddaughters, and a step-grandson; sisters, Marie Hess, Columbus; C. Jane Miesse, Columbus; and Mary Ellen Miesse, Watsonville, CA; He was preceded in death by his first wife, Velma E. Miesse, parents, Elmer P. and Iva D. (Hartman) Miesee, his brother John F. Miesse, and a grandson, Scott J. Miesse. Bob formerly served on the vestry of St. Johns' Episcopal Church where services will be held Tuesday January 23rd at 10:00 A.M. The family will receive friends at the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home, Lancaster, Monday from 2-4; 6-8 pm. Burial will be in the Amanda Township Cemetery following the service on Tuesday. A memorial service will be held Thursday January 25th at 11:00 A.M. at the Ascension and Holy Trinity Church, Wyoming, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Thomas Hall Memorial Fund, St. Johns' Episcopal Church, 134 North Broad St., Lancaster, OH 43130 or to the Memorial Fund of the Ascension and Holy Trinity Church, 334 Bums Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 43215.
