Robert Mills Obituary
'Bob'
Mr. Mills, age 83, formerly of Charlotte, NC, passed away, June 2, 2009 at Hospice and Community Care of Rock Hill, SC after a brief illness.
Mr. Mills was born January 5, 1926 in Bethlehem, PA, the only son of Oscar E. and Mary Hagen Mills. Bob graduated from Fort Hamilton High School in Brooklyn, NY. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served during WWII.
He met and fell in love with Joline 'Jo' Laverne Humphrey of Lynchburg, VA, and they married August 28, 1953. They resided in Winston-Salem, NC before moving to Charlotte, NC.
Bob was lifelong Moravian and was a charter member of Park Road, now Peace Moravian Church. Bob loved playing and singing in his church band and choir, and was also active in local barbershop singing. He retired from Pilot Life Insurance Co., where he served as an agent and manager for over 20 years.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Jo, and his daughter-in-law, Sharon, wife of son, Robert Mills.
He is survived by son, Robert H. Mills, Jr. of Tampa, FL, son, Richard F. Mills and wife Priscilla of Charlotte, NC, and daughter, Mary M. Korbler and husband Wayne of Richburg, SC and four grand-children, Marti and MaryAnne Mills, Joseph Korbler and wife Meghan, Michael Korbler and wife Kristen.
The family extends our sincerest thanks and deepest gratitude to Hospice and Community Care of Rock Hill.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Peace Moravian Church, 4418 Rea Road, Charlotte, NC 28226. Funeral will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2009 at Peace Moravian Church, followed by interment at Sharon Memorial Park, 5400 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to the Building or Music Fund of Peace Moravian Church.

I just learned of Bob's death a few days ago. He sang with us in the Moramus Chorale for many years. He was a delightful tenor and he loved Moravian Music. I send our love and prayers.

For the short time that he was a Presbyterian at Forest Hills in Tampa, we enjoyed having him in the choir. We give thanks for his life and that he brought Robert Jr to us. Many thoughts are with you at this time.

I would like to express my deepest sympathy to you at this time. I have wondeful memories of time spent with "Daddy Mills" and the advice he gave to me. I will hold your family in my heart and prayers during this period. I know he has reunited with "Mama Mills" and they are creating music to please the heavens!!!
