We were personally blessed with two assignments together. It is very difficult to know you have left us all so soon. May God bless you and keep you in the hearts and thoughts of those who knew you and loved you. Rest peacefully my friend.

Being stationed in Germany, I only learned today of the passing of Alan Mirrielees. I served under Col Mirrielees at the Academy from 2000-2002. I have learned important lessons from all my commanders. Col Mirrielees taught me to truly care and fight for your troops. I hope that I can emulate Col Mirrielees in these respects. To the Mirrielees family, I am truly sorry for your loss. Big Al will surely be missed.

To the Mirrielees Family,
We had Dr. Mirrielees a few times at the office since We moved here a year ago. He had a good sense of humor. If you had any questions, he wasn't afraid to answer them. He was a true down to earth dentist. He will be severely missed. May God's love and understanding comfort you during this time of sorrow.

Although Al and I were never stationed together, I regarded him as a friend. Our contact was limited to dental meetings, usually AMSUS. During the first day of a meeting, if I saw him or heard through the grapevine that he was there, I knew we would be in for some great stories and good times. He will be missed by many, many people.

Al was a terrific individual. I and others went to the thoroughbred races with him often at Turfway in N Ky (called Latonia then). He was always a barrel of fun and was loved & respected by his classmates, faculty and staff of the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. I never had the pleasure of meeting his wife or children but my regards go out to them nonetheless. May your fond memories outweigh your sense of loss at this trying time. Peace and love to you all....

To all of "Big Al's" family. Though we didn't see you, or him for several years, it seems like only yesterday that he brightened our lives. Bobby and I have three children who join us in feeling the loss and sadness of his passing. Amanda, please, please, feel free to visit us in Somerset, and we would love to meet Ryan and Samuel. May God give you strength from his beautiful memories.

Alan was a great friend to many of us in our dental school class of 1977 at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. He was loads of fun and had a zest for life that was contagious to those of us around him. Although it has been years since seeing "Big Al", he was a great friend, and he is remembered with many fond memories and stories at gatherings of his Kentucky classmates and friends. My thoughts are with you Amanda, Ryan and Samuel.

I was lucky enough to have COL. Mirrielees as my first commander. He set high standards for his "troops" and although he wasn't easy he was always fair. He was an excellent example of leadership and I have utilized lessons he taught in my own career.
Amanda you and your family have my thoughts and prayers.

Dr. Mirrielees was my dentist at the oral clinic. He was always a friendly smile when I came in. His excellent ability to solve all my dental problems, left me leaving smiling. He always knew what to do and how to do it. I enjoyed listening to his wonderful stories and will miss him dearly. Hugs and prayers I send to his family and close friends. " HE WILL BE MISSED!"

I was a patient of Dr Mirrielees at the Oral Clinic. I have always been very fearful of dentists but he was an excellent man that made me comfortable and not afraid to go and see him. My thoughts and prayers to the family, I will miss his gentle hand.

Great memories of Alan's year at Eglin; good times when we've met since. Great sadness at his going. But I would not have missed knowing Alan even though that sadness is going to be a while going. Our best to Amanda and the boys.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Col Mirrielees' family at this time. I knew him when he was the civilian liason at the 28th Medical Group (EAFB). He was always willing to take that extra minute and chat with you and make sure you were doing fine. His shining smile and star are going to be greatly missed by those who knew and worked with him.

Rest in peace, 'Big Al'. There is less joy in the world and a lingering sadness among your friends and family because your warm smile, engaging personality, and gentle friendliness are gone from our lives. You will be missed. You were loved by many. Godspeed. God bless your family.

Alan was the finest commander I had the privilege to work for in my twenty-nine years with the Air Force. The best years of my careers were while I was a superintendent under his leadership, it was “Outstanding”. He made ever one around him feel important and treated everyone with care. My heart and prays go out to Amanda and the boys.

It was a privilege to serve along side Col Mirrielees...one of the best directors the Ellsworth dental clinic has ever had. He cared deeply about his staff and his patients and continually put their welfare before his own. The Air Force and I will miss a true friend and colleague.

Alan was a wonderful friend and will be missed immensely. He was an exemplary Air Force leader, always placing a high priority in taking care of the personnel he led. Through good times and bad, Alan was an incredible support and his sense of humor would always carry the day. His pride in his military service, respect for those who practiced "service before self", and love for his family will always be remembered. We all will miss him dearly.

I did not know Dr. Mirrielees, but in reading his obituary, it is apparent he was a man that set an excellent lead for others to learn and follow in both his professional and personal life. I want to thank him and his family for the sacrafices they had to make in order for him to complete his mission to protect and serve our country. I pray that the lord gives you guidance and comfort.
