Robert Mullen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 11, 2018.
Robert "Bo" Mullen passed away peacefully in his favorite recliner early Tuesday morning, after a decade-long bout with various illnesses. He was born March 24, 1951 in Middletown, Connecticut. Bo graduated from Daniel Hand High School in Madison, Connecticut in 1969. He was a natural athlete and excelled in any sport he played.

After time spent working in the banking field, Bo set his eyes on a new ambition: Golf. Not only did his athletic prowess give him an edge, it propelled him to professional status. In Fall 1992, he completed the Professional Golfers' Association of America's business curriculum and became a PGA Golf Pro. He was employed at Ibis Golf and Country Club in West Palm Beach, Fl. for 17 years, working his way to up to be the Director of Golf.

Following a brief retirement, Mr. Mullen once again laid his eyes on his next ambition: High school football. His grandson, Keegon, was a player for the William T. Dwyer Panthers. He started out following the team's success and offered words of encouragement to the players when appropriate. His "can I lend a hand" attitude quickly shuffled him around from spectator, to helper, to equipment manager. He was even awarded a championship ring following Dwyer's undefeated 2013 State Champion season. He stayed with the team for a total of seven years, long after Keegon graduated. He viewed each young man as a child of his own, and at times even mentored Dwyer's coaching staff. Throughout chemotherapy and radiation, Bo always made it back to Dwyer. Not once did he complain about his turbulent health. All through treatment, you should still find him on the sidelines. The absolute happiest days of his life were spent at Dwyer with the players, coaches and staff.

Bo was 67 years old and is survived by his wife of 40 years, Judy Wood Mullen, their daughter Samantha Zavattaro, (Rocky) and grandchildren Keegon and Zoe Zavattaro. His brother Dennis Mullen, (Michelle) and three beautiful nieces. Bo Mullen will be reunited with his parents LeGrande and Ruth Mullen, and his brother James Foy.

Amongst Bo final wishes was his desire for all posthumous donations to be directed to the Dwyer Panthers Booster Club in his honor.
