Robert Murphy

Robert E. Murphy, 82, beloved husband of Jeanne (Fink) Murphy, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage died Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at home surrounded by his family. Born in Glendale, New York, he is the son of the late Martin and Agnes (Deitz) Murphy. Bob grew up in Floral Park, New York. He received an education in electrical engineering from the RCA Institute in New York City and also attended Hofstra University. He began his career as an engineer in the Aerospace industry working for LEL Inc. Copiague, New York. Varian Associates acquired LEL and Bob served as Vice-President and was appointed General Manager while working there and raising his growing family in Hauppauge, NY. In 1971, Bob moved his family to Topsfield, Massachusetts after being transferred to Varians Beverly Microwave Division. He retired from Frequency and Times Systems of Beverly. Bob took great pride in his wife and children and his home. He especially loved to spend time with his grandchildren. He lived a full life, enjoying the simple pleasures: long days at the beach, fishing, cooking, talk radio, music, humor and a good book. In his retirement, Bob travelled internationally with his wife and his beloved brothers and sister, seeing and appreciating the magnificence and beauty of the world. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Robert Murphy and his wife Elizabeth of Boxford, and Kevin Murphy and his wife Casey of Lafayette, CO; five daughters: Donna Murphy and her husband Shawn Elliott of Manhattan, NY, Bonnie Griffith and her husband Robert of S. Hampton, NH, Colleen Murphy of Topsfield, Karen Sorenson and her husband Jon of Boxford and Kate Bilsbury and her husband Robert of Essex; two brothers: Martin Murphy and his wife Florence of Plainview, NY and Donald Murphy and his wife Janice of Valdosta, GA, and one sister: Mary Greenfield and her husband Roy of Melbourne, FL . He was also predeceased by his brother Joseph Murphy and his wife Clare. Cherished Pop-Pop will also be missed by his fifteen grandchildren: Ivy Kaller, Justine McLaughlin, Darmia Elliott, Emily, Elizabeth, Robert and Aileen Murphy, Vanessa and Justin Griffith, Madeline, Jack, Anna and Henry Sorenson, Isabella Murphy and Brayden Bilsbury, two great grandchildren: Christopher Kaller and Ava McLaughlin, and many adored nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday November 20, 2011 from 3:00pm- 6:00pm at the Campbell-Lee, Moody Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly (North Beverly Location). Funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Rose of Lima Church, 12 Park Street, Topsfield on Monday November 21 at 10:00am. Burial followed in Pine Grove Cemetery in Topsfield.
