TIFFIN — Robert Allan Overholt, 78, of Tiffin, died Monday, Feb. 22, 2016, at his residence.
Robert was born Oct. 4, 1937, in Bucyrus to James and Dorothy (Alspach) Overholt and was raised by Winona (Keller) Overholt. He married Donna L. Fischer July 7, 1957, in Great Bend, Kansas and she survives in Tiffin.
Other survivors include a son, Richard Overholt of New York, New York; a daughter, Rebecca (John) Sendi of Westfield, Indiana; and a grandson, Bo Sendi.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother Winona, and a brother, Thomas Overholt.
Robert was a 1955 graduate of Bucyrus High School. In 1959 he received his Bachelor's degree from Heidelberg University and then in 1971, his Master's degree from Miami University. Robert retired as an educator after serving 35 years in public education and 5 years at Heidelberg University. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and its hand-bell choir; the Tiffin Glass Collectors Club, Seneca County Habitat for Humanity, and the Heidelberg University Community Chorus.
Visitation for family and friends will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe St. in Tiffin. Visitation will also be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, at Trinity United Church of Christ in Tiffin.
Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Trinity U.C.C., with Rev. Dr. Louis "Rick" Dorsch officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to: S.A.R.A. at the Ohio Conference of the United Church of Christ, Trinity UCC Music Fund, the Tiffin Glass Collectors Club or the Seneca County Habitat for Humanity in care of the funeral home.

Mr Overholt was one of the most important teachers I had in high school. Beyond his teaching, his mentorship had much to do with my wanting to be a teacher, a professor, and to pursue a career as a research scientist. His life was a blessing to me.
