Robert Plumley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 6, 2024.
Robert Harrison Plumley was born on February 16, 1947. He grew up in Hamlin, WV and passed in Kettering, Ohio on April 5, 2024 at the age of 77. Viewing and funeral service will be at 11:00AM and 12:00PM, respectively, on April 13th at the Koontz Funeral Home in Hamlin. Burial afterward will be at the cemetery behind the Mount Union Church in Fraziers Bottom.

He was a long time resident of Fraziers Bottom, WV.  Retired, Robert and his wife Shelia spent their winters in Fort Myers, FL. until last year. He was a wonderful, son, father, husband, and most of all, a special Paw-Paw.

Preceded in death by his parents, Hobert and Ilene (Adkins) Plumley as well as in-laws Howard Moore & Edna Moore and survived by Wife-Shelia (Moore) Plumley, Son-Ryan Whitney Plumley, Daughter-in-law-Lindsay (McGuire) Plumley, Granddaughters-Sarah Juliette  Plumley & Maura Elizabeth Plumley, Sister-Geraldine Scites, Brother-in-law-Raymond Scites, Brother-Dwight Plumley, Sister-in-law-Gloria (Woodall) Prichard, and Brother-in-law-Glen Howard Moore. Robert also had many wonderful nephews, nieces, grand nephews, grand nieces, uncles, aunts, and cousins.

He lived by the creed that taking a big step forward in life means knowing what needs to be done and doing it, whether you like it or not! One of his favorite words was perseverance. He worked to provide for those he loved and lived on a beautiful black angus cattle farm in a home he designed and built himself with the help of his family.

Robert was a very busy man in his lifetime. After graduating from Hamlin High he worked in Pennsylvania. Then he was drafted in the US Army and deployed to Germany. Afterward he attended Marshall University on the GI Bill. He worked nights as the guest clerk at the Uptowner Inn and reunited with The Love of His Life, Shelia while in college. They were married on June 18,1970. She taught school at Winfield Elementary for 35 years before retiring. After graduating from college with a degree in accounting, he worked for The Governor's Commitee on Crime and received his MBA in business from WVCOGS. He was co-owner of Mid Valley Builders and then started Lincoln Builders, constructing many homes. Robert next worked at Union Carbide. For many years as one of the Product Specialists for making Sevin, he created and wrote many of their procedures. On the farm, Robert instructed his son Ryan on repairing equipment and building other ideas to make farm tasks easier. This helped inspire Ryan's career in engineering, becoming a Senior Aerospace Engineer at the US Air Force Research Lab in Dayton, Ohio. Robert retired from Bayer Crop Science in 2011.

He enjoyed travel with family to beaches, cruises, and visits to the Dominican Republic. Robert will be missed so much by his family that loved him dearly and all his many friends!

While we wave goodbye to him from this earthly shore, he will be waving hello to all those loved ones on the other heavenly shore!

I´m so sorry for the loss of Robert for Shelia and Ryan and the family. I wasn´t around Robert that many times, but whenever I was I was so struck by his sense of humor and his intelligence. And also of the love that obviously had for his family. He will be missed.

Robert and I go back to our days in grade school. We were together through graduation in 1964. Robert was a great athlete and a good friend. To Sheila and family my heart felt condolences. May GOD bless the Plumley's.
