The Rathwell Family
As a Statscan employee, I knew Bob for many years -- a fine gentleman was he. I was away at the Brier at the time if his passing --- my sympathy to the family.

I'll always remember Bob from our first meeting back in the late 60's. He was very kind to a very young, nervous, newly appointed survey manager. Over the years, I had many occasions to chat with Bob who was always delightful. He will be sadly missed by all.

When I began working in the Dominion Bureau of Statistics in 1961 Bob was my softball coach. We had some great times on the ball diamond and later I got to do some work with him. Since my retirement I would see Bob on occassion and we would have a good chat about the old days. He will be missed by many. He was a great man.

He always had time for everyone, no matter how busy he was. He will be truly missed by all who knew him and we will miss his friendship, on and off the soccer field.

My sincere condolences to the Rathwell family on the passing of Bob. I knew Bob well through my association with the Nepean Hotspurs Soccer Club and always found him to be a friendly and warm person whose contributions to amateur sports in this city were simply outstanding. May he rest in peace.

It was a great pleasure to have known Bob, I consider myself very fortunate. Always pleasant, always positive, always kind. I was lucky to have had him as a soccer coach for 3 seasons, last summer being the most recent. Guys like Bob are very rare; everyone enjoyed time spent with him and for all the right reasons. He was a great friend no matter what age or personality type you were. I personally have countless great memories from my time with Bob, and will truly miss him... especially the next time I step on the soccer field.

To The Rathwell Family,
I grew up in Lachine during the 40's and 50's with the Rathwell family who were friends and neighbours of my family.
Bob's youngest sister, Gwyn Rathwell Lowther, was one of my first childhood friends, and Bob's other sisters, Margaret and Sandra, babysat me when I was a child.
I will always have warm memories of fun-filled times in the Rathwell home during my childhood.
With my deepest sympathy,
Pat Powell Johnston

Bob was such a great and welcoming person, I can't remember a time when he wasn't smiling. He took so many people under his wing and gave them the support and mentorship they needed. It was no surprise to any of us when he was inducted into the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame and we are all so proud of everything he has done for the city. You’ll be missed Bob

I worked with Bob at Statistics Canada, and in December, at our semi-annual luncheon of retirees or "wanna be" retirees, I had a wonderful conversation with him. I will remember Bob.

My sincere condolences to all of Bob's family. I met Bob through soccer and was constantly amazed at the amount of time and dedication he had to all of the sports he was involved in. He always remembered everyone's name and how he knew them, and always had words of encouragement and camaraderie.
He was an inspiration to many and a true treasure to his community, both at home in Lynwood and in his larger community of Ottawa. He will be greatly missed.

Louise and I wish to pass on our sincere condolences to the Rathwell family. We both had the pleasure of working with Bob at Statistics Canada for many years. I still remember reading his column "Rathwells Ravings" in the RA News and our Departmental newsletter. We met Bob several times after we had all retired and it usually meant a good time discussing the past and present. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Bob is a great example of what it means to volunteer

This was a true volunteer. The hockey and soccer communities will truly miss him (and his trademark red cap). Whenever we ran across him (in some rink or other), he always took the time to talk, share stories and banter about hockey. Our condolences to his family and friends.
