Robert Joseph Reed

1941 - 2016

A zest for life and living, never-ending enthusiasm and generosity of time, energy and resources: This was Bob Reed. Robert Joseph Reed was born in Eugene, Oregon, on May 13, 1941; he died in Eugene 75 years later on July 6, 2016. Those 75 years were filled with love, happiness and every other emotion that a human being can experience in this life. He is survived by his wife and fellow adventurer of 53 years, BJ; daughter Robyn Reed Gaddy and her husband, Will, and daughter, Hallie Jo, of Missoula, Montana; son Jonathan Reed and his wife Khanh and daughter Josephine of Washougal, Washington, JoJo's little sister will arrive in October! son Josh Reed and his wife, Susie, and daughter, Ruby, of Livermore, California; sister Barbara O'Neil and her husband Peter of Eugene, Oregon; and Aunt and Uncle, Charlie and Joanne Mickelson of Medford, Oregon. He encouraged his children to dream big and through his absolutely unconditional support, he enabled them to follow their personal and professional passions and accomplish amazing things. They were all the light of his life!

As a member of Rotary for 48 years, Bob saw first-hand how important it was to give back to the world and his community, from local projects to the International Youth Exchange program where he served as Chairman for many years. Even in his very last days he was helping to try to raise funding to get a new roof and heating system for the Agness Community Library.

His career in real estate and development was fulfilling, challenging and gave him an opportunity to help clients every step of the way and forever if they so desired, forming many life-long friendships. Golfing, fishing, hunting, traveling, watching the Ducks and looking for the next great adventure filled his days and years. His energy, joy and good-natured mischievousness filled every room into which he walked. With a can-do attitude and eternal optimism, he believed anything was possible..and proved it countless times! We will all miss him everyday! A service and Celebration of Life will be held in Agness, Oregon, on August 13th at 4:00 p.m. at Singing Springs Resort. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Agness Community Library at P.0. Box 33, Agness, Oregon 97406.

Bob was a great guy. We knew each other well at South Eugene and had many fun times. Besides being a fine person and friend, Bob was an excellent football player and we shared the experience of football together. Good sailing Bob wherever you are and thanks for the privilege of knowing you. I was saddened to read of your passing. And, BJ, my condolences to you and the family.
