Robert Richard Richter

Robert Richard Richter, 61, passed away at his Muskogee home July 11, 2008. Robert was born February 25, 1947 in Bastrop, TX the son of Robert Ernst Richter and Sybil Selina Richter. After graduation from high school, Robert joined the Navy in 1965. He served his country for two and a halfyears, one and a half in Viet Nam as a Naval Corpsman. During this period he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. After his return from active duty, he married his wife of 38 years, Nancy Burkhart and completed his college education.Robert entered Baylor College of Medicine’s first class of Physician Assistants in 1971, graduated first in his class and earned the prestigious McIntosh award. After graduation he accepted a full time position with the Veteran Affairs hospital in Houston, TX and a teaching position with Baylor College of Medicine. In 1975, he transferred to the Muskogee VA and during his last seven years also took a part time teaching position with the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. He enjoyed caring for his veteran patients until retirement in 1991. After retirement, he spent his time with his many hobbies but mostly enjoyed time with his wife, three children and ten grandchildren.Robert is survived by his mother, Sybil Williams; father Robert Richter; wife, Nancy Burkhart Richter; children, Ryan Richard Richter and his wife Julie, Heidi Veda Richter Wilkinson and her husband Matthew, Tess Christine Morris and her husband Randy; grandchildren, Jacob Hiller, Sydney Hiller, Avery Richter, Aric Richter, Richter Wilkinson, Winifred Wilkinson, Trenton Morris, Madison Morris, Kirsty Morris and Masie Morris.A Rosary will be held 6:00 pm, Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at the Bradley Belltower Chapel.A funeral service will be held 11:30 am, July 16, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Randy Morris, Matthew Wilkinson, Lankford Bivins, Alan Hiller, Lake Moore and John O’Rear serving as pallbearers.Memorials are requested to be sent to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 321 North Virginia, Muskogee, OK 74403.The family has entrusted Bradley Family Funeral Service of Muskogee with the arrangements.Friends may send condolences to the family on the web page www.bradleyfuneralservice.com.
