Have just been informed of the passing of both of your beloved parents and I want to offer each of you my deepest regards and grief. The memories of all the years they were our close friends are still with me as they were with "coach". Your father inspired thousands of athletes and Harvard men and women by his accomplishments and his humble demeanor. My condolences to the whole family.

Pete, you and your parents have been in my thoughts. Bob was such a wonderful part of running track and watching football at Harvard. His support and easy-going demeanor were always appreciated. He embodied the best of Harvard not just with his own accomplishments and support but his regard for others. Take good care, Alice Neuhauser

Ann, Claire and Peter,
I just heard the sad news.
Your Dad will be missed by many, and will remain in the hearts of those he has touched along the way. Always a smile on his face and a sincere genuineness when he spoke. As I look back in my life, I realize what a gift it was for me that he was my Uncle.
He leaves a great heritage of achievements that will long be remembered. I will miss him, as we all will. But time will bring comfort in the fond memories of your many good years with together.
Please accept my love and sincere sympathy in the passing of your Mom. I wish I could be with the family at this time but perhaps this summer We will meet up again.

Dear Pete and the Rittenburg Family---

Your Dad recruited me to Harvard, supported and encouraged me, and remained a life-long friend as he was to 10,000 other Harvard Track and Field Men and Women. He was a real Gentleman! Also, wanted to express my sorrow at your mother's passing...She was a true Lady!

Wow, I never knew all your dad's accomplishments on the track!! Amazing, humble is a word I keep seeing and it is true. I wish you strength your family has gone through so much in a short time.

I was one of many graced with your Dad's friendship at area track meets. I treasure the times we spent together. I met your mom a number of times and their mutual devotion always warmed my heart.
When you see those green shirts officiating track meets, know that your Dad is with us still.
You and family are in the thoughts and prayers of the MTFOA family.

On behalf of the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association's Executive Board, I would like to pass on my deepest condolences. Bob was a “one of a kind person”. His love of Track and Field went beyond the ordinary. His contribution, in time and research, to the Athlete's Hall of Fame, of which he was a proud member, was extraordinary. I loved talking track and field with him and his memory was incredible. I will miss our talks.

As a young Harvard runner, it was a pleasure seeing Mr. Rittenburg at alumni events and track meets, always with a big smile and encouraging words. He was a role model to look up to for younger runners, as an ideal of a supportive and caring alum. Remembering him fondly.
