ROBERT “RJ” OROSS Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 16, 2025.
ROBERT "RJ" JACK OROSS passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2025. He was 22 years old.

Born in New Brunswick, NJ, to Scot and Heidi (née Adamcewicz) Oross, he has been a lifelong resident of Spotswood.

RJ graduated from Spotswood High School in 2021. He has been a volunteer firefighter for Spotswood Fire Department for 6 years where his passion for the department really ignited; making memories of a lifetime but most important to him a brotherhood that will forever be irreplaceable. When applying to join the department he was asked, "Why do you want to belong to the fire department?" RJ's answer was simple, "I would like to help people in need, and always wanted to be a firefighter". RJ did not waste any time trying to gain experience and further his education. He attended every training opportunity that was offered, Surface Ice Rescue, Motor Vehicle Extrication, Traffic Incident Management, and Incident Command classes to name a few. Just this past January at the annual Installation of Officers Dinner, RJ was sworn in as the department's Second Lieutenant. Having only been in the position for five months RJ had contributed so much. He always brought a positive outlook to any situation and offered constructive input no matter the topic. He handled any task that was given to him with efficiency and if there was something he was unsure of he wasn't afraid to ask. Just recently he took it upon himself to start training the newest junior firefighters on their roles and responsibilities on the fireground, without anyone asking him to do so. It's that kind of dedication and self-motivation that made RJ such a valued member of the department.

He also worked as a public worker for the Monroe Township Utility Department, Spotswood Public Works, SC ARMS in Spotswood, Helmetta Public Works and Panini Bistro in Spotswood. He was a member of the Polish Club in Spotswood, the Old Bridge Pistol and Rifle Club, as well as Union Hill Gun Club.

In his spare time, he loved nothing more than being with friends and family- especially at Bar-J, where he created countless memories full of laughter, MISCHIEF and camaraderie. He was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in hunting, fishing, outdoor and indoor shooting ranges and spending time in nature. He loved riding his motorcycle in ANY weather and enjoying the freedom and tranquility of riding with his brothers, finishing each of those rides with his favorite - a slice of pizza. He was a skilled and respected professional gunsmith who took pride in his craftsmanship and deep knowledge of firearms. He built a life around his love of firearms and was a trusted community resource for gun education and safety.

RJ had the kind of personality that lit up every room. He was the funniest and most sarcastic guy you could ever meet-spontaneous, goofy and endlessly kind. His infectious smile and one-of-a-kind sense of humor made him impossible to forget and even harder not to love. RJ will be remembered for his selflessness, loyalty, grit and the joy he brought to everyone around him. He leaves behind a void that cannot simply be filled by anyone. His positive attitude, infectious smile, and overall good character will be missed deeply by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

RJ is predeceased by his Maternal grandfather, John (Jack) Adamcewicz; Paternal grandparents, William and Dorothy Oross (née Schuchardt); and uncles, William (Billy) and Andrew Oross.

Surviving are his parents, Scot and Heidi Oross of Spotswood; his brother, Aidan Oross of Spotswood; his fiancée, Ally Garced of Cinnaminson; his sister, Shyanne Oross and nieces, Ava and Charlee of South Carolina; Maternal grandmother, Beth (Mamaw) Adamcewicz; uncles and aunts, Thomas (TJ) Adamcewicz (Ana Lopes), Jack Adamcewicz (Alyssa Squire), Daniel Adamcewicz; and cousins, Paige, Thomas (TJ Jr.), Jannine, Rylan, Jack Jr., Wyatt, Heather (Will), Bethany, Alannah, Hannah; his pets, Gus, Otis, Sabbath (Poocho), Dozer, Askum; MANY friends that were more like brothers and sisters than can be named, but know who they are by the tattoo; MANY aunts, uncles, cousins, friends.
