Robert Rodman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 7, 2025.
Robert "Bob" Rodman, a proud Navy veteran, devoted professional, and passionate volunteer, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025 at the age of 93.

Born and raised in Massachusetts, Bob graduated from Sharon High School in 1950 before earning his degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1954. His early career began with a retail venture on the family farm.

Bob met his future wife, Zara, on a blind date, and they married in May 1956. On the same night they booked their wedding venue, Bob received a letter notifying him that he had been drafted into the U.S. Navy.

He completed Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, and was commissioned as an Ensign. Bob and Zara began their military life together with assignments in California, Hawaii, and ultimately Sasebo, Japan. He served aboard the USS Luzon as Communication Officer and later as Assistant Repair Officer, followed by assignments in the First Naval District in Boston. Bob continued his service in the Naval Security Group Reserve, ultimately achieving the rank of Commander during a distinguished 22-year military career.

Following his active duty, Bob entered the pharmaceutical industry, beginning as a Medical Service Representative for Pfizer. He continued with Syntex Labs for nearly three decades, rising to Training Manager, a position he held until his retirement in 1993. From 1995 to 2010, he remained professionally active as an independent contractor for the Society of Pharmaceutical & Biotech Trainers.

Bob was honored for his decades of impact in the training profession with his induction into the Life Sciences Trainers & Educators Network Hall of Fame in 2018. This honor recognized his valuable contributions to training and life sciences. His life was truly dedicated to teaching, mentoring, and helping others-values he carried into every phase of his career and community work.

Throughout his life, Bob was deeply committed to service. He volunteered with the Sierra Club and became a passionate leader within AARP, serving as a driver safety program instructor, zone coordinator, and deputy state coordinator. As a legislative advocate, Fraud Watch presenter, and HomeFit program educator, he worked tirelessly to improve the lives of older adults across Connecticut.

Known for his big heart, Bob was always there for family and friends. He was endlessly proud of his children and grandchildren and celebrated their every accomplishment. Whether offering guidance on fixing something around the house or simply lending an ear during life's challenges, Bob was a steady, supportive presence. He touched countless lives, and his stories, kindness, and warm nature will never be forgotten.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Zara Rodman; his parents, Rachel and Jack Rodman; his in-laws, Anna and Irving Greene; and his dear sister, Phyllis Fazzio.

He is survived by his children, Michael Rodman and his wife Sherri, Lisa Rodman, and Jennifer Zullo and her husband Tony; his cherished grandchildren, Lindsey Buckley and her husband Connor, Haley Rodman, Jack Dedmondt, and Robert and Maggie Zullo; his sister-in-law, Vera Wolfson and her husband Paul; and his loving nieces and nephews.

Details for a celebration of life will be shared with family and friends when arrangements have been finalized.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Harry F.W. Johnson American Legion Post 379, 622 5th Avenue, Bethlehem, PA 18018, in Morris R. Rodman's memory

I first met Bob immediately after Syntex bought out Bordens Pharmaceutical Division, where I was employed with a local territory.
I could never forget his patience, intelligence, always available to answer a question, very smart. He helped get my career off to a fast start.
Always remeber our driving together calling on Pediatricions,
Dermatologists, providing selling tips. I was fortunate that Bob lived next door in Sharon, I was in Walpole.
The world has lost a savior, never to be forgotten.
