Robert Scannelli Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 7, 2023.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert "Bob" Scannelli of Portsmouth, NH on October 2, 2023. Robert passed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones after prolonged illness. Robert was born on June 6th, 1950, he was 73 years old. He was the devoted husband of Ida Scannelli with whom he shared thirty-four loving years. Robert was the proud father of Derek Scannelli and his wife Jennifer of Vero Beach, FL, Danielle Holmes and her husband Adam of Carver, MA, Samantha Scannelli of Barrington, NH and the late Cindi Anderson. Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Vincenza Giusto Scannelli Delfino, his father, Antonio Scannelli, his brothers, Rocco Scannelli and William Delfino. Robert was the third of eight children, and he is survived by his loving brothers, Anthony Scannelli (Paula), Joseph Scannelli (Linda), and Ralph Scannelli and his loving sisters, Loretta Lupo (Julio) and Patricia Carbone (Edward). Robert was the cherished grandfather ("Papa") of Sophia, Corrine, Lydia, Ryder, Leighanne, Owen, Lauren and Kendall.

Robert's fondest memories are those of growing up in East Boston, being part of a large Italian family. The stories of Robert's childhood were retold many times because they brought such joy to him and his family. He also loved to travel with his wife Ida especially on road trips to the White Mountains. Robert truly loved being a dad and grandfather who dedicated everything to his children and loved ones unconditionally. He was a loyal man that always showed up. In retirement, Robert enjoyed the comfort of his home with Ida where a home cooked meal and a good cup of coffee was the perfect ending to any day. He will be deeply missed by all. We all will meet him again; life truly never ends.

Robert was a Veteran and proudly served our country and honors the disabled Veterans of America.

Services will be private.

As the days, the weeks, and even the months pass, it hasnt gotten any easier with you being gone. You were the light to the end of our tunnel. The glue of the family that held everyone together, and the only person I was ever truly able to call a DAD. You were more than an average grandfather, you were the star in my eyes, the man I looked up to, and talked to whenever I needed anything whether it be advice, or how to make dinner lol. Nothing will ever be the same without you. I love you

Uncle Bobby, you may have been a bit unorthodox (I´ll never forget my first and last time riding on the back of your motorcycle at the age of 5) but you were a big believer in family and doing things the right way, even if it was hard.

Jessica and I had a lot of babysitters growing up (a lot!) and you were certainly the most memorable. You taught me popcorn could be made on the stove - as long as we didn´t burn the house down - and that cookies can only be had after a full glass of milk. Most things I learned, I took with me as I grew older, but maybe not the milk rule lol.

We will miss you

Uncle Bobby,

You were the life of every party and taught us the importance of family and always being together. I will always remember the night at our restaurant in Everett when we sang "I will always love you" by Whitney Houston all night (I must have been around 8), my first motorcycle ride with you in the parking lot, drinking milk with dinners (in order to have dessert), and last, but not least, the epic fireworks show you graced us with every 4th of July at Uncle Anthony´s that, as kids, felt like magic. Thank you for so many wonderful and happy memories. I love you, Uncle. Rest in peace.

Love,
Jessica

I will remember Robert always being there for my band, The Originals. He was a band aid (now known as roadie) Always helped moving the equipment, being at every gig and security. RIP Robert.

I will miss our phone calls and cooking on the phone and trying to find the right recipe for the best fried chicken!!!! None of them were like mom´s fried chicken. No one ate saltine crackers like Robert - a whole stack pack of unsalted saltines and a whole stick of Land `O Lakes butter... because that´s how our mom
ate them - or trying to give Robert Ice Box Cake - our family favorite - and I used other graham crackers - I didn´t have NABISCO GRAHAM CRACKERS ... he knew it. lol. Julio was right.... We had many babysitters but no one could babysit a whole party of kids like Robert .... The stories go on and on. He was the best.... And touched everyone´s heart. I will miss you so much Robert
Love you, Loretta

Robert was a "band aid" as we called them when my band, The Originals, played in the late 60s. He was one of three to help us move the musical equipment to every gig then stood by as security. He went to every gig we had. Thank you Robert (for some reason, we in the band always called him "Robert".) Don't forget to look up our guitarist, Frankie Circeo, when you get to heaven. Always loved having you around. You were a loyal "Band Aid".

I was so sorry to hear about Robert's passing. He had a lot of great qualities. The one I admired the most was his loyalty to family and friends. Robert's devotion for all he loved never wavered and that quality is difficult to find today. He will be missed by all who knew him. Take care. Love, Jane Fonzo

Robert was like a brother to me. We worked together for years, my favorite memories are when we had our Christmas parties. He loved the holidays and he loved his family. I will always cherish my memories and the time we spent together. He was very special, and always so loving to my Mother, he actually used to call her Ma.

We met so many years ago my old friend and shared some great times. I remember you singing "Oh Sandre" not remembering the title of the song and we all laughed. We were brothers and loved life. I'm going to miss you, my friend. R.I.P. Tom Aguiar (and Robin Roberts).
