I was saddened to learn of Robert's passing, even more so that I could not attend the service to pay my respects. And for Robert, my respects are deeply felt and originate from the late 1980's through to the early 2000's when I had the honor and pleasure of working alongside Robert at Cahaba / SpawGlass. I will not forget working with Robert at the Compaq Commons project in the late 1990's, a fairly complicated and high finish project which I believe could not have been built as efficiently and as well planned by anybody other than Robert. He and I would walk the job, all levels, from one end to other, two or three times a day, and I doubt that any of the 40 plus subcontractors on the job got by with any less than three of four cell phone calls from Robert during each walk.
I am a very lucky man to have known and worked with Robert.

My Dear Sandra, Robin, Heath and family:
What a beautiful service today for such a loving man. I think about Robert and my first thought is "That Man Loves His Family". Then my memory takes be back to NW45 Baseball--The beginning of the new fields and the huge part he had with the original construction of those fields. I can still picture him in his coaches uniform. Everyone admired & loved "The Scardino" family so very much.
I loved hearing the stories today at the service about his life. His work, hunting, baseball, cars, family, precious grand daughter holding his hand, turning around to go back to Baylor to pick Robin up. Just a wonderful service today. I wish I could take some your pain away for just a moment. Walk slow and just take small steps for now. We will miss you Robert---

Reading this guest book, I am struck by the number of people who had father-like relationships or experiences with Robert. I am inspired to share and say thanks for for my own such experience. I was just out of college, working, and desperately needed a car.I also was thinking of going back to school (which would mean little or no income). Robert and Sandra bravely and generously offered to co-sign for me to buy my first new car. That vote of confidence came at a critical time in my life and was very important to me. When the car was ready, Robert and took me to the dealership to sign the papers. Heath came with him. Robert took me to a nearby gas station and bought my first tank of gas and made sure I knew how to get home for the dealership. He was smiling, encouraging and even seemed a little proud...kind of like a Dad.
I am so sorry that Robert experienced such suffering his last years. He did get to see Heath and Robin grow into kind and and successful adults, build a new and lovely home with Sandra, walk his daughter down the aisle, and welcome Calleigh to our world with a kiss. I am sure he thought he was the luckiest man in the world.

Dearest Scardinos,
We are shocked and saddened to learn of Robert's passing. He was a true gentlemen. Robert was a brave soul, as evidenced by his willingness to take on 12-15 young girls as their softball coach, which he continued, for several years. His patience and kindness was unprecedented in dealing with, not only the girls, but the parents, as well. We will always remember the fun times we had, traveling around to softball tournaments, and the tremendous effort demanded of Robert and Sandra to get everyone in the right place, at the right time. Robert was the kind of gentle, teaching individual that every parent is thankful to have their young daughters associated. I can only imagine how he cherished his baby g-daughter, as he was such an outstanding father to Heath & Robin, and a beloved uncle to Kim. What wonderful memories everyone has because of knowing Robert. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you as you cope with your terrible loss.
We love you, Charles & Penny Murdaugh

The entire West family is deeply saddened to learn of Robert's passing. We were very honored to know Robert, having had the opportunity and pleasure to work with him in the girls' softball program at NW 45 when our kids were all growing up. He was so dedicated to the kids and the ideals of things being fair for every child who participated. He was always a man of his word and we are certain this is the way he was with everything in his life, personally and professionally.
We know he will be missed, but hope you are comforted by knowing he touched the lives of so many, especially our young people, in such a positive way.
Our deepest sympathy and prayers are with you now. May God give you comfort in the days to come.

And of course, plenty of bubble gum & pickles, as i am sure that you remember well!! I am sorry that i will not be able to be there with you on the celebration of Roberts life, but my thoughts will be with you all day as they are today. Always loving you all, Debie "Ermel" Risz

To those who worked with Robert he was direct in his communication, his words were his bond. and he was there ready to lend a helping hand. His presence always made for a better project for both client and company. We will miss him for these reasons and the standards he set..Ken Leach

To Aunt Sandra,Heath and Robin,
I sat down and reflected back on my youth and it dawned on me that Uncle Robert was more like a brother to me, than an uncle. We shared countless weekends on the San Jacinto River skiing behind his first boat(MAMA'S KIDS)on a pair of water skis we saved up for from S&H green stamps. He and I spent many years hunting together and discussing family,he loved each and every member.I will miss him dearly, but God had a new plan for him and he is in a better place now.My sympathy goes out to all of you for our loss,I will always have him in my heart

Mrs. Scardino, Health, Robin, and the whole family. I am so sorry for your loss. I remember how cool and Italian I thought your dad was. Cool last name, nice dark features, etc. Yet, he was nothing like the Italian wise-guys portrayed in the movies. He was kind, and funny.
I am sorry that he will no longer physicaly walk the earth, but I hope that he roam through all our hearts forever. I send love and hugs to you all.

Having known Robert for so long makes it all the more difficult to realize he is not still with us, but his spirit lives on, and he is no longer in pain. Sandra, you and he have been so very important in Paul's and and my life together, and I love every moment we have been able to share with the two of you throughout these last 50+ years. What a joy to watch each others children grow into the fine people they have become. Such wonderful memories to cherish, so many memories yet to be made by them. Treasure what is to come and know that God is with you every step of the way. I love you with all my heart!

Robert was an incredible man, mentor & friend. Back when I first started in the construction business and I was as green as green could be; he took me and several other like me under his wing and always made time to spend with us. He was always patient, but always expeted results. I can truely say he is someone who helped to groom me in our profession. I will always miss him coming into my office in the afternoons (almost on a daily basis) with a sprite and snickers bar and saying "well what did you mess up today son, huh?" I would always laugh and say "nothing yet, but give me a few minutes". I knew that he never thought I messed something up he was just making sure that everything was ok. I have, and I will miss him alot!
