Robert and Ellen Sheldon

Robert Sheldon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 14 to Oct. 16, 2008.
Robert Charles Sheldon Sr. and his wife of 51 years, Ellen Louise “Ogden” Sheldon, joined the Lord on Oct. 11, 2008. Robert was born on Aug. 2, 1938, and Ellen was born on April 21, 1937. Robert was well-known in the community as an avid hunting enthusiast, collector and firearms expert. Robert was a member of the Kiwanis, a veteran of the Jasper County Sheriff’s reserve, a Missouri hunter education instructor including Missouri Instructor of the Year, 20-year member of the National Guard and a guest writer for the Carthage Press and other hunting publications. Ellen was a homemaker who enjoyed crafts, animals, cooking and the great outdoors. Together they owned and operated the Old Cabin Shop for 28 years. Their efforts to improve hunter safety through education will positively impact future generations. Both Robert and Ellen were active members of Fairview Christian Church and the Homebuilders Class. Robert and Ellen leave four children, Robert Sheldon Jr. and wife, Julie, of Joplin, Cara Housh and husband, Todd, Round Rock, Texas, Cheryl Waldbuesser and husband, Ted, of Jasper, and Danny Sheldon and wife, Amanda, Carthage. The Sheldon’s have 19 grandchildren; one step grandchild; and a grandchild and great-grandchild on the way. Robert and Ellen will be greatly missed by their family, many friends and the community. Visitation is scheduled at Fairview Christian Church, Carthage, from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17, also at Fairview Christian Church. Interment will follow in Park Cemetery. Donations in the Sheldon’s honor may be made to the Homebuilders Class in care of Fairview Christian Church or in care of Ulmer Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Ulmer Funeral Home.

Daniel ~

I'm heart-broken over your loss. Your dad helped me set up my first blackpowder rifle, sold me my first 30-30, and supplied my archery addiction for years. Your mom and dad were good people. If you need anything, please contact me.
