Robert "Bob" Howard Sheridan, Jr.
July 17, 1933 - June 30, 2022
Robert "Bob" Howard Sheridan, Jr., 88, died peacefully of natural causes on Thursday, June 30, 2022 in Houston, Texas, his long-time home.
Bob was born in Minneapolis, MN on July 17, 1933. As a result of the death of his mother at birth, Bob lived as part of the Alma and Edward Sheridan family, next door to his fraternal grandfather and near the extensive Sheridan family in Macon, GA. In 1937, he moved to Kansas City, MO with his father and step mother, Loretta. The love and support shown to him during these years by both the Sheridan family and Loretta and her relatives eventually led to his strong belief in the importance of supporting family and relatives to the extent possible.
In 1942 Bob and his family moved to Houston. He attended St. Anne Catholic School and St. Thomas High School, where he graduated in 1950 at the top of his class. While in high school he played on American Legion and St. Thomas High school baseball teams. Bob graduated from Rice Institute (now Rice University) with a B.A. in history in 1954. At Rice he was a member of the Honor Council and the Dean's List. Bob was a three-year starting pitcher on the varsity baseball team and displayed a spirit of competitiveness rooted in honoring the rules of the game and respecting others in both victory and defeat. Upon graduating from Rice, he attended a year of law school at the University of Texas and pledged Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.
In 1955, Bob began a lengthy and diversified career in the financial services industry. He became a commercial banker with Texas National Bank and later with Texas Commerce Bank rising to Vice President in the investment department. During those years, he graduated from the Stonier Graduate School of Commercial Banking at Rutgers University of Pennsylvania. Between 1964 and his retirement in 2009, Bob held senior management positions with Moroney Beissner, Rotan Mosle for most of his career, Simonton Securities, Regency Group, Legg Mason and completed his successful career with Morgan Stanley as vice president – Wealth Management. He also developed expertise in gold markets during these years, traveling extensively to some of the world's major gold-producing regions.
Over his life Bob was a member of, and active in, numerous professional groups and associations, including Lloyds of London and a member of the New York Stock Exchange from 1980-1985. He was a member of River Oaks Country Club where he was an avid tennis player and golfer, Rice University Alumni and R Organizations as well as numerous other social and academic organizations. He served on the St. Thomas High School Foundation Board for a number of years.
Bob is survived by his wife of 26 years, Barbara Wilkonson Sheridan, his sons by prior marriage, Robert "Trey" H. Sheridan III, of Charlotte, NC and P. Douglas Sheridan of Houston, TX, his two step children, Philip Edward Kyle of Houston, TX and Kate Nichols Kyle of Austin, TX, his two grandchildren, Robert "Bo" H. Sheridan IV and E. Mason Sheridan both of New York City, NY, and his step grandson Nicholas Philip Brow of Austin, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents Robert Howard Sheridan and Nora McIntyre Sheridan, his step mother, Loretta H. Sheridan
Bob was a loving husband, father and friend and an active member of the Houston community. He will be missed dearly.
The family would like to thank his devoted, loving care partners and private caregivers, Latrice, Crystal, Andriana, Victoria, Lazerick, Anissa, Ramona in addition to the staff at The Tradition. They also wish to extend their gratitude to Kenneth Myers, his private physical therapist.
Memorial Services will be held on Friday, July 15 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 345 Piney Point village, reception immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial donations to the Robert Sheridan Endowment Scholarship Fund at St. Thomas High School, 4500 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77007.

Bob and I met at Rotan Mosle in the late 1970s. He was a seasoned executive and I was a young trainee. He was serious, but friendly and always generous with his time and advice. A very fine gentleman.
